So I’m the owner of the home and my mother in law has lived with us for past 5 years. We’ve never gave her a physical lease or physical rules but we are now thinking of doing it. We only ask her to give us a $100 each month to help with bills and that’s it.

The problem however is she is an alcoholic. We’ve asked her not to drink or be drinking here because she always starts problems when she does. She usually gets her friend to take her out and comes back this way. We are thinking of making a physical rule list for her to sign that says “No alcoholic beverages/and or no intoxication on the property”. Ridiculous we have to resort to that but we’re at our wits end with her. She has mental disabilities that ramps up when she drinks and is intolerable. Any advice? Can we do that? Thanks

The problem is my mother in law is an alcoholic. We do not like her drinking here or coming home drunk (which is usually the case). She has a friend who takes her and gets her drunk and she comes back and bad arguments happen. This occurs at least a 2 or 3 times a month and causes huge stress on my wife, teenage son and I. We thought about making a written rule list where it says “No Alcohol/and or Intoxication on the Property” and making her sign it. If she doesn’t sign it then we will probably look at eviction. Can we legally do that? Or what would you recommend? Thanks
