Introducing My Crochet
I think after a long search, I may have found my community. Hello! I’m a mom of a neurodivergent daughter. She has always been fascinated by my ability to crochet. She loves wearing my pieces. She does have ADHD, but she would sit and watch me crochet. “Wow. It’s like magic. I don’t understand how it goes in string but comes out clothes!”
I learned to crochet from my grandmother. She learned from her Aunt. That means I don’t know how to read or create a pattern because my mom’s generation is the first literate one in the family. My grandmother drove a bus for a living and I believe her aunt was a maid.
The first outfit pictured my daughter actually wore in a National Pageant and won as Miss Preteen Maryland. It represents colonialism in the colors of the Maryland State Flag (Red and White for Calvert, Black and Yellow for Baltimore). Too bad COVID shut the National Competition down.
