How do I build a Desktop Environment for my Linux Distro

So I am currently on LXDE with Cairo Dock, BUT Still it eats nearly 90 to a 100 MB of RAM. I am looking for something more smoother faster lighter still being really user friendly.
My requirements for the Desktop Environment are
- It should be lightweight
- It should be User Friendly
- It should support great Customization (As today people are having a need to customize every aspect of an article
- It should be unique
I need a way to build it with some help as there isn't much documentation on how to make one.

Since I am a student and I am doing this it gets a bit hard for me to research the whole time because I have to manage academics too
