Nepal is as Bad as India When It Comes to Patriarchy
The recent incident where a girl complained about a male doctor checking her breasts/private areas has me confused seeing the comments. Everyone is saying “doctor ho, checkup garda testai ho” or “gyno ma gaye pachi expect garnu parcha.” Obviously, some examinations require touching private areas, but shouldn’t the patient be informed beforehand? And shouldn’t there be a female chaperone/witness? Doctor ho bhandai ma whatever he does is automatically okay hudaina. Katti female lai unwanted touch man pardaina, doctor le gare pani uncomfortable huncha.
What’s worse are comments basically saying “kt lai dherai bhau diyo bhane testai ho” and “kt haru le fake accusation garchan.” Why is the first reaction to insult her or assume she’s lying instead of saying “properly investigate garaun”? Even if the doctor’s intentions were innocent, proper procedure still matters. “Hamilai pani school ma pitthyo, normal ho” mentality le normalise gareko kura right hudaina. Maybe the doctor did nothing wrong, maybe he did—that’s for the investigation. But why are we acting like questioning the examination itself is wrong?
