Where do you usually find old Video8 camcorders these days?

I’ve bought two online so far.
In the first case, the unit wouldn’t power on at all, so I had to return it. The second one was listed as working and I even ordered it from overseas, but while it does power on, there’s no image in the viewfinder.

I’m specifically looking for Video8 / 8mm camcorders from the late 1980s to early 1990s.
The problem is that most listings I come across seem to be junk units or untested gear that ends up not working properly.

I’m wondering where people actually manage to source reliable working units.

Are there any specific marketplaces, collectors, repair sellers, or Japanese secondhand platforms that are more trustworthy than typical eBay-style listings?

At this point it feels pretty difficult to find anything that isn’t partially broken or misrepresented in the listing.

Sony CCD-TR5 - Can I power it on without a charged battery?

Hi everyone,

I'm completely new to camcorders and just bought a Sony CCD-TR5.

It came with:

  • the camcorder body
  • an NP-77H battery
  • an AC power adapter
  • an AV cable

The battery seems to be completely discharged, so I can't verify whether the camcorder works properly.

I looked through the manual but couldn't find any "DC IN" port on the camera.

Is there any way to power on the CCD-TR5 directly using the AC adapter without charging the battery first?

If so, where does the adapter connect to the camcorder?

Thanks in advance!
