Why are baby swings so ridiculously expensive?

Mine was a baby swing and I still think about it, as a first time mom I spent an embarrassing amount of time researching, comparing reviews, watching YouTube videos, reading Reddit threads and convincing myself I needed a specific model. I bought it brand new from Cargo for around $350 and at the time I felt really good about the decision. I figured if I was going to spend that kind of money, at least I was getting exactly what I wanted and had done all my homework.

Less than a week later, an ad just appeared while I was scrolling showing me the exact same baby swing on a different website for literally half the price. I just stared at my phone for a solid minute trying to process what I was looking at. The internet felt like it was personally targeting me and maybe it was. What made it so much worse was that I had specifically tried to be careful and find the best deal before buying. I thought I had done everything right. Turns out I had not done everything right at all and the algorithm waited until after I purchased to show me that information, which is absolutely diabolical. Ever since that moment, I have become so much more cautious about paying full price for anything baby related. Between baby swings, car seats, strollers, bouncers, cribs and the seventeen other things you somehow need, every single dollar adds up so fast. Overpaying even once stings when you're already spending so much. Now I compare prices across multiple sites before buying anything and just assume there's always a better deal out there until proven otherwise.
