Hypothetical 1:

A reservist enters an AO covered under the CZTE in December. Is the entire year now subject to the 72k TSP max?

Hypothetical 2:
The reservist returns home in the middle the following year, and contributed 30k to his TSP while deployed. Is his civilian 401k now “expanded” to the 72k max? Or can he not contribute any more to his civ 401k?

Hypothetical 3:
The reservist wants to max (24.5k) his Roth TSP while under CZTE for maximum tax advantage. He sets his base pay to 100% into Roth TSP, and maxes it in 6 months.

Will any new contributions+matches automatically roll into his traditional TSP? Or is he screwed and missing out on contributions for the rest of his deployment? (Despite the fact that his traditional TSP max is expanded)

I’ve read several “how to financially optimize CZTE”, but none of them address reservists specifically.
