My Experience With Bodypod
So, when I purchased my bodypod, I came onto here and noticed a lot of people saying negative stuff about it, which made me want a refund before it even arrived, and it freaked me out, honestly. However, I've been using it for just a little over half a year now, and I can say that it has helped me with my weight loss journey a lot. I started at 240 and lost 30 lbs before I found the bodypod, but it took me a really long time to lose that 30 lbs, like I'm talking a year or so (could also be because a lot of stuff happened in my life, but I don't wanna get into all that).
I found the bodypod through a beauty influencer on YouTube, but didn't initially buy it because I'm a poor college student who is very skeptical of EVERYTHING I buy. I decided to go for it and bought it, making sure to take photos and videos of me opening it because I heard horror stories about people trying to get refunds.
I did the weigh-ins and stuff, and they weren't always accurate, but one thing I like about it is that when you use it multiple times in a row, and you're not sure which result is accurate, it takes the average of both results. I have compared results to doctor visits, and it seems to be pretty accurate, along with comparing to both my gym scales and my other scale. When I am running consistently, my muscle mass and fat % in my legs genuinely do change on the app, which surprised me because a lot of people were saying those were just made-up numbers.
Anyhow, the hume scale was my ONLY splurge in my weightweight lossloss journey. I bought a 40-dollar smart watch off Amazon, a cheap Owala water bottle (I was trying to choose between this fancy 200-dollar water bottle or the Hume scale and glad I made the choice I did), and this scale. All I did was run a lot, change up my mindset, and use this thing. I lost 82 lbs so far (NO OZEMPIC EITHER GUYS!! I'm an Ozempic hater unless you genuinely need it for your health)
Oh yeah! And a lot of people on here were saying a lot of stuff is locked behind a subscription paywall, which is kinda true but not really. I think the age range of this product varies really widely from poor college girl to rich old person, and as a poor college girl, I didn't really have the same expectations as some other people on here. That isn't to say that they're bad expectations, but I think the website makes it pretty clear which things are subscription-based and which aren't tbh. Then again, I research stuff a lot before I ever click the purchase button because I'm kind of a penny-pincher and all about reusing stuff and not buying new. I mean, I only shop at thrift stores, yet I bought this thing.
I am also really not a fan of AI, and I'm glad that the Hume scale app without a subscription doesn't force you to do all that mumbo jumbo. That's just a bonus for me, and I figured I'd throw it in for those considering purchasing this product, but it isn't really a big thing since AI should be focused on medical stuff like health scans instead of replacing artists' jobs if anything.
Overall, I'd rate it pretty well! Do I think this would be good as the ONLY thing to help someone lose weight or keep track of their fitness progress? No. You need other aspects of your life to change in order to make a change. This is just a helpful tool. BUT I do think it's a good tool if you don't fully rely on it. Like for me, I use it to make sure the weight I'm gaining as I lose weight and work out is from muscle and not bad eating habits. I also like that it gives you an estimated basal metabolic rate!
