Need someone to talk to about Islam from a progressive perspective
Hi All, I feel super silly even posting here, I won't even mind if my post gets deleted.
I'm an older Aussie woman who is a non-practicing Catholic, married to a very anti-religious but otherwise amazing husband. My entire environment is Christian or quite rabidly atheist.
I lived in Turkey when I was much younger for quite a long time and so many of my female friends seemed to be like people who would be posting here. I've been mulling over just privately converting to Islam, partly inspired by these old friends, but I can't talk about this to anyone around me, including the few Muslims I actually do know.
How do I find someone to talk through my thought process that isn't an AI or isn't going to say "Oh, if you don't change your life totally and wear a headscarf, you're doomed!" I figure millions of Turkish women can't be going to hell? Plus, wouldn't I be better of as a Muslim who is practicing faith poorly than a non practicing Catholic?
I've been researching this for weeks and all I've come up with is AI answers designed to make me feel good, people telling me I need to totally walk away from my life as it is now, or just piles of Quranic quotes and other stuff that actually doesn't really carry any nuance.
Who does someone like me ask questions to? (Note, I'm hesitant to just reach out to a mosque because I know just enough people active in just enough places that I'm worried about my privacy)
I appreciate any guidance you folks can offer on this, and I wish you all a wonderful day. But I still feel silly.
