Malta has no concept of horizon
grew up somewhere flat and massive where you could look out and see the sky actually touch the ground miles away. here youre always boxed in - limestone walls, apartment blocks, construction cranes, someone's rooftop terrace with laundry out. even at the sea its just... water then sky, no distance marker, nothing to scale yourself against. the weirdest part is i didnt notice until i went back to brazil for two weeks and my brain suddenly felt like it could breathe again, like id been living in a beautiful shoebox this whole time. came back to valletta and the walls felt closer somehow. wonder if people born here even feel it or if its just something that happens when you relocate to an island thats basically one medium-sized city spread across some rocks.
