8 bit Workbench™ ED: explore number systems

I designed this device that teaches binary, decimal, hexadecimal and octal number systems. It uses a hands-on approach with Altair-like toggle switches. Can be used as a STEM-kit in classrooms, handy for programmers or for the retro hobbyist. It also has a built-in game. Check out the video for details, hope you like it.

160w Anker Prime charger: 12w for a pixel 9 and 8w on iphone 13?

I bought a *nice* charger because I have to charge stuff quickly for work. After buying 60w USB-C cables and a 160w charger I'm getting a blazing fast... combined 20w? What the heck?

Turning adaptive charging off/on did nothing. Trying different plugs did nothing.

How do I achieve the Pixel 9's advertised 27w charging...

Looking for a grounded USB-C PD charging "hub"

I'm looking for a grounded multiport USB-C PD charging "hub", as in one that plugs in to mains via a cable, as where I need it is nowhere near a wall socket. I currently have an Anker one, however it is not grounded (just uses a figure-8 connector for 240v) and it causes a few issues.

The main issue being that it shocks me if i touch my MacBook and my older ThinkPad at the same time while they're both charging (MacBook plugged into the Anker charger, ThinkPad's barrel jack plugged into its power brick), as the ThinkPad ends up grounded while the MacBook ends up connected to neutral (I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Another issue this causes is if I plug my charging MacBook into my studio monitors (plugged into the wall, grounded) there is a very loud hum/buzz through the speakers until I unplug the MacBook from the charger.

Everything I can find is either the exact same as what I currently have (cabled but not grounded), or plugs straight into the wall. Does anyone know of a charger that meets my requirements? I'm not enjoying my current one shocking me all the time. Thanks in advance!

Ugreen Nexode 300 pro - thermal images @ sustained 140 and later - 30 minutes 200W

I have bought the charger attracted by current sale (125 Euro, cable gratis). Needed something for charging drone batteries, also DC output would make a nice laptop charger backup if needed.

First I have decided to go for a thermal test. Popped AC into DJI Power 1000 output and USB-C into input. Unfortunately the less than 100% efficiency didn't allow me to get free energy ;) .

Test conditions: Ambient 23C. Slight air movement (open window).

Test rig: DJI Power 1000 as receiver (and AC power supply as well).

For 140W one cable with 100W certification, one ordinary (the angled one).
For 200W I have plugged another one with 100W cert (unplugged the basic cable)
Photos taken with Thermal Master P3 camera.

- 140W test: One USB-C cables placed into 120W port (I have manually set the ports for 120+120+40 watts)
Output 100W nominally/98 according to charger/93 accoding to Power 1000) and 40W (39/36).

For 200W; 140+140W output, both giving 98/99 by charger / 93/94 by Power 1000)
Unfortunately my USB tester decided it is a time to give up. It was 20-20.1V at the output according to charger with 4.9+ amps.

Note: DJI Power have 2X100W USB-C inputs, so couldn't test more than it. No test loads, I am poor ;).

The charger is heavy, heating up takes some time. After an hour the temperature was still increasing. The final 140W photos I made after 90 minutes:

140W:

140W/90min

140W/90min

140W/90min

After that, I placed the cable in port2,

140W/90min+200W/30min

140W/90min+200W/30min

140W/90min+200W/30min

... and unfortunately I had to go sleep then, so that concluded the test. The temperature inside is a little disturbing, especially since it was charging @ 2/3 nominal power...

Need to optimally charge an Iphone13, Pixel 9 and Printer on one wall charger for work. My head's going to explode.

The intricacies of charging these days are mind boggling. I would like to buy one wall charger box for all 3 devices. The printer is a dex cord 100w. So all 3 are usb c into the wall charger.

I thought I'd buy this anker charger but none of their products that I can find actually *have* PIQ 4.0. I need 3.1 PD and PPS charging.

Long story short if any of these 3 devices go down during my 16 hour days I am a sitting duck and I'm tired of struggling with so many different chargers.

Hoping some brainiac out there knows more than I do about all this jargon.

So three usb C ports 100w, 27w, 23w with PD 3.1 PPS charging.

This is what I thought USB-C was supposed to be

I was looking for one of those USBC thermal cameras for some random DIY stuff around the house and just assumed I could plug it into whatever phone was nearby.

Apparently not.

A bunch of the ones I looked at still have separate Android and iPhone versions, even though both phones are USBC now. We have one of each at home, so buying a little USBC accessory and still having to decide which phone it's permanently tied to felt kind of ridiculous.

Ended up finding the tc002c duo, which works with both. Tried it on my Android and my wife's iPhone and it was literally just plug it in and open the app. No adapter or different hardware version.

The thermal camera itself has been handy, but honestly this was the part I appreciated most.

I used to think the best thing about USBC was carrying fewer cables. Now I think it's being able to grab the same accessory and use it on whatever device is around.

Is this HDD enclosure C2C?

Planning to get a HDD enclosure, have several options with Orico being the most well-known brand in my country. Can anyone confirm this product is C2C compatible? Otherwise I'll just get the cheaper USB type B version

Looking for charger recommendations for my OnePlus 12.

Hey guys, I have been using a OnePlus 12 since 2024 and to charge it, I initially was using the 100W USB-A to USB-C charger they bundled with the box but it was heating up my phone by a bit which I did not like.

So I switched to the older 65W USB-C to USB-C charger I had which was provided with my old phone (OnePlus 9 Pro). I especially liked this charger because it could even charge my laptop at 45W and generally fast-charge a bunch of other devices of my friends and family.

The issue at present is either the cable or the brick itself has gone bad I guess because often times it does not charge my phone reliably, it sometimes charges > disconnects immediately > then charges again > disconnects in a loop. I have my suspicions on the cable as it already has electrical tape around its ends to shield slight tear of the insulation.

So now, I am looking for a decent charger that can fill its role. I want this new charger to charge my OnePlus 12 quickly, preferably at the same speed as their proprietary 65W protocol but also support fast charge protocols of other brands like Apple, Samsung and others so that if I switch my phone in the future, I could still use this charger. I also want it to charge my laptop (Currently I have a 2020 Asus G14, may switch in the future) at a decent rate (do not need crazy high wattages or enough to game off of, just a decent enough speed to quickly come in handy at a library or a cafe).

What charger + cable combo do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Expensive USB Cube repair

Hey guys I am trying to fix an expensive 120v to USB-C Cube that was given to me. It does not seem to provide Power but I have not tested it other than trying to plug things in to the USBC outputs. I am proficient at traditional through hole soldering but do not have any training or equipment for SMD. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to check?

i've bought a bunch of aliexpress usb-c hubs of various sorts/brands, and they all burn up. what do?

i have a bunch of TVs/monitors around, so i figured i'd use USB hubs to plug in the device i want to use in the moment. so i got a heap of aliexpress usb-c hubs for cheap.

at least 3 of them don't work properly now, after some use. i figure everything i bought will probably have a short lifespan.

anyone have any experience here? can i stuff them with thermal paste and get good results?

i hate how trash usb hubs are like 4$, and the one i bought at bestbuy was $50 and old now but it's trucking along fine.

i wanna fix/durabilify the cheap shit, or at least not spend >10x for non-garbage.

advice?

ROG Flow z13 External Monitor (will HDMI->USB-C cable cast AND charge?)

My laptop only has 3 ports: thunderbolt USB-C, USB-A, and aux. If I buy a high-quality HDMI->usb-c cable, will it charge my laptop ***and*** work as an external monitor?

Links/names of quality cords are appreciated :) Also, if there's anything to lookout for in the item description to make sure it does both, lmk.

Would rather not get a splitter as that lowers refresh rate to a max of 60Hz. Thank you!
