Gaining weight in a 1000 calorie deficit?

Hi,

I finally decided to lock in on losing weight a little over 2 weeks ago when I started using MacroFactor. I am 6’0 and around 205 pounds with a visually estimated body fat around 30%. I have not worked out seriously in over 3 years so not much muscle mass.

I used MacroFactor to calculate my daily calories burned and set it to a 1000 calorie deficit with the goal of losing 2 pounds per week. This puts me at 1841 calories which seems reasonable. I count everything and measure/weigh everything I eat so I don’t think miscounting is the problem.

I have been training hard full body 3x a week and getting between 8000-10000 steps per day.

I have actually gained 2 pounds in the little over 2 weeks since starting diet and training. I also started creatine at 5g/day around this time so I know this may cause some additional water weight. I just don’t understand how I could be in an aggressive deficit with hard training and still not be losing weight.

Any advice to keep me motivated?
