True Crime Garage

Has anyone been disappointed in True Crime Garage lately? The quality of the podcast has tanked since they stopped recording in person. I guess the Captain is in the U.K. a lot? They are using AI in their writing its so obvious. It just seems like they are doing the same type of cases with no new information. Just cranking them out. The Captain is barely making jokes and Nic has just become insufferable.

I've listened to them for so many years and now I can barely get through an episode. It's sad when you see a long time show fall apart.

Anyone meet their favorite podcasters and end up severely disappointed?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this kinda thing. I'm just trying to work through my feelings on this.

I recently attended an event where one of my favorite podcasts were at. It was a several day event, I saw both hosts hanging out or walking around a bunch of times during this event. I've listened to this podcast for YEARS. Follow them on social media, patreon, buy their merch etc. I spent several hundreds of dollars to attend this event. I know all that's on me but the hosts have always come across as genuine and caring about their listeners. I've had a few interactions with them on social media. They (or their team) liked comments and responded with some pretty generic responses. I emailed them once with some questions related to the subject of the podcast. (Something they say every show, email with your opinions or questions) They responded after a few months, ignored the question and gave kind of a generic thanks for listening.

All this didnt bother me because they have to be super busy. They have thousands of fans and I'm sure people are vying for their attention constantly. I totally get that. My listening to them and spending money on them is my choice and I am not entitled to anything from them. I fully acknowledge this.

For years I've heard them talk about hanging out with listeners at events and talking about how important the listeners are to them. Etc. They aren't the only ones who do this, so you've probably heard this kind of talk. And I know if you attend an event with hundreds or thousands of other listeners you aren't likely to get to spend hours having a long conversation with them. Its just the experience I had was nothing even close to what I had been hoping for. One of the hosts, I met kinda stared at me with dead eyes. I told them my name, they cracked a joke about it then started having an animated conversation with the person I was with (who's never listened to the podcast was just tagging along). The other host completely ignored me in the meet and greet line. Though I did see him glare at my partner a few times later when he was walking around. Like full on looked him up and down glaring at him. It was such an incredible disappointment so there was no way I was going to try and initiate anything with them. The interactions or non interaction I had with them was in a meet and greet line. I didn't approach them when I saw them walking around or being busy.

The problem is I cant even listen to this podcast anymore. I get a lump in my stomach every time I see the name of it. This podcast has helped me get through so many bad things in the last few years. I guess I feel so dumb now because I bought all the bs they were selling. Its even effecting other podcasts I've listened to. I guess I've lost the trust.

Has this happened to anyone else? I cant stop wondering if it was me? Like I overlooked some kind of etiquette. I've heard peopleonline rave about meeting them. Were my expectations too high? I didnt expect more then a moment of time in a meet and greet.and a chance to tell them how much the show has meant to me. I know they hear it all the time. I just didn't expect only one of them talking to me and immediately dismiss me. The host that ignored me was very cocky and strutting around obviously enjoying the attention. Hes just so different in person.

I guess I'm really mourning what this podcast meant to me and I just feel like a total idiot. Its true when they shouldn't meet your "heroes".
