Will gaiters be necessary for the next 7 days?

I fly to Glasgow tomorrow to start the WHW, aiming to do in 6 days. My fully packed kit will be 12kg already, and the forecast shows light showers. Is it worth packing my goretex gaiters or is it just unnecessary weight for this type of weather?

If anyone has completed it recently, your insight would be much appreciated here.

Worth upgrading from the OEX Fathom EV400?

Hi all,

Currently I only camp summer mostly and occasionally autumn and spring. I have the OEX Fathom EV400 sleeping bag and I’ve never had an overly cold night, especially paired with the Big Agnes Rapide SL.

I was looking at some Nemo bags and I really like them - but I don’t know if its a worthwhile upgrade? I was looking at the Forte 35F with a comfort limit of 1c. The fathom is advertised at a comfort limit of -8c but i really don’t think thats accurate being synthetic and only 1.1kg. I’ve had it down to maybe 5c and been okay but not sure I’d want to be going down further. I do generally sleep warm.

I had also consider the down bags, the Nemo Disco specifically with a comfort limit of -1c but I feel a bit anxious of the thought of my down getting wet.

My dislikes with the OEX are the god awful zip and it also feels very restrictive. The Nemos seem to have a different design more suited for side sleepers like myself.

The price of the forte is £180 and weighs around 1kg, the Disco is £250 and weighs 868g. I paid about £55 for my OEX, at 1.1kg

Anyone any experience with these nemo bags and whether you think I’d be justified in spending the money. I also do want to get into winter camping where temps would be single digits and below.

Can anyone help me with a 5 or 6 day plan?

I’ve tried using ChatGPT for it but honestly using AI is a bit off putting for me and I don’t trust it anyway. I will be flying in from Belfast so by the time I’m in Glasgow city center it’ll be around 1/2pm, then I need to make a stop to pickup a gas canister as I can’t bring mine on the plane, so the first day will have to be relatively shorter than the rest I’m guessing. Would like to get a decent chunk out of the way on days 2 and 3. I’m open to camp sites and wild camping but mostly prefer wild camping where it is permitted (I know loch lomond has bylaws in place).

This has probably been asked a million times before but i see so many different options and it’s a bit overwhelming. It’ll be my first thru-hike. Base weight is around the 10Kg mark and i’ll have my water filter and purification tablets too. Planning to have a fair few camp meals but will be open to eating at cafes and restaurants along the way.

Showering too? Not sure how to go about this one - I have biodegradable wash so if I need to wash in the wild I’m not totally against it but a shower would be nice as a treat. I basically have all the equipment to do the full thing self-sufficient if I just restock food along the way, but obviously will use facilities where available.

The main hurdle is the final day where I will need to get back to glasgow and then fly home. I have not booked a return flight incase things dont goto plan, but I also don’t want to be waiting around if flights sell out so i was thinking I could maybe do a hotel once its over or if i finish early enough there might be time to get the train back and make it to the airport - who knows!
