I want to apply to Sunnyvale, but I’m worried about the COL.

Hello! Currently a structural engineer with a Ms in computer science and looking for a career pivot to aerospace

I’ve design bridges, buildings, helicopter landing pads etc but I really want to get into defense

My sister is doing medical school at UCSF. My parents moved to TN, so I would like to be close to her.

I’m worried about the COL in the Sunnyvale office as all the tech giants are in that area.

Does anyone have any advice/recs/experience? Like commute, where to rent, is public transportation a better option?

If it’s 4 days a week and 2 days WFH, maybe a 2 day long commute isn’t so bad.

Solar Turbines or Northrop Grumman?

I have two offers. Both are similar in base pay.

Basically looking for a good culture and growth. Solar would be Controls engineering, Northrop would be a Mechanical Design engineer.

Recent grad with a ME degree.

Looking to hear everyone’s experiences and advice! Happy to answer specifics. Thanks

Also worth mentioning

Solar: 5 days onsite

NG: 3 days in 2 wfh

Need your advice on offers.

I recently received offers and opportunity to stay or leave the industry.

I have been a roadway engineer for 5 years, PE, CA (big city), and make 90k.
I like my team, they are cool, reliable, and helpful, work can be frustrating with the differences in office politics at times and how different groups operate. But I feel like my growth has stalled.

I'll be honest, I have been dealing with a lot of imposter syndrome lately so I need guidance.

Offer 1: Controls Design Engineer I (Leave the industry)
Base Pay: 115k
Bonus: Target 8%
401k: 5% match (3 year vest)
WFH: No (5 days on site, 30 min commute one way)
Glassdoor Company Rating: 3.8

Offer 2: Transportation Engineer II
Base Pay: 100k
Bonus: None
401k: 3% match, 6% of salary in stock (3 year vesting)
WFH: 3 days in required, 2 days remote, 9/80 if desired (20 minute commute one way)
Glassdoor Company Rating: 3.7

Is getting ghosted normal at NGC?

Don't know how to explain it but I have never seen anything like this. Firstly, I know I didn't get the role but it's just the experience that surprised me.

My recruiter never showed up for our scheduled call, even when I emailed the 15 mins into the scheduled time. Then we rescheduled (no reasoning as to why the first time was a bail) and they were 30 mins late.

I interviewed with a team 2 weeks ago and never heard back. Checked my portal today and the app is gone (no record that I applied or even rejected) it's not in the "inactive" section either.

I sent a follow up email to say thank you for their time (never heard back).

This was my first experience and it was actually a referral so I know good people work here. But sheesh.

I kind of knew I didn't get the job because in my panel interview over teams, the hiring manager was grilling me with technical questions and when he said "how do you not know that" I knew it was over. Just a very strange encounter

Anyone here use Bentley Iplot?

Absolutely hate the program and need help. Why does it always fail to plot sets.

Anyone know where I can go for guidance? Having an issue where it prints completely different from what’s shown on the DGN (prints different linestyles, like water utility will show as sewer , gas etc)
