(TLDR); Turning computer into an all-in-one dedicated amp simulator, looking for suggestions on what type of speaker(s) to use, passive or powered.

My basic question is- should I try and make a cabinet and “make” the speaker, or find a decent powered/passive speaker? I think the idea would be to get a full range speaker and make a cab, but I was wondering if I could get some sort of more unique sound with a different type of speaker

My guitar amp speaker blew and I’m planning on making an all-in-one rack with a computer and audio interface simulating the amp with a compartment on the bottom for the speaker. Originally I was thinking about finding a cheaper powered PA speaker, but I’m able to get some free amplifiers from work to use with a passive speaker so I’m considering that too. I do audiovisual work so I have some baseline audio knowledge, but not when it comes to getting creative with things like this

The extent of my DIY audio experience is making a cab for some 12” subs and installing it in my car and some permanent commercial audio installations in ceilings/walls

I put reverb on my instrument buses and master 😟✌️

I find that it helps “glue” all my components together, my mixing/mastering skill level is below mediocre so there’s probably a better way I could go about it lol but it’s been working great for me. I really only produce metal so this is mostly for guitar/bass/drums, but even after compression I feel like they can use some cohesion, especially if I have quad-tracked guitars and parallels. I’ll usually do compressor>reverb>limiter. I’m not slapping a huge hall reverb on them or anything, I use a plugin called “InvisibleVerb” and keep the mix % just low enough that I can hear a difference. I feel like the idea of reverb on the master would give most producers a stroke, but it’s been making my mixes sound much more complete tbh

What sacrilegious tricks do you guys use that goes against the “rules”?
