Maybe I’m overthinking this, but how are people so calm about job insecurity?

The Swiss job market feels insane to me. People move to Switzerland for work, rent an apartment, build a whole life around that job... and then 2-3 months later they might get laid off and suddenly can’t even afford rent anymore.

How do people deal with that level of uncertainty? Seriously. What’s the backup plan when your right to comfortably exist depends on a company spreadsheet?
