Why do some local businesses dominate Google Maps while others barely appear?
Been researching local SEO recently and the gap is honestly wild.
Two businesses can offer similar services in the same city, but one gets most of the calls simply because Google trusts it more locally.
A few things that seem to influence this heavily:
• Google Business Profile setup
• Reviews + response activity
• Local keyword relevance
• Consistent business info across the web
• Website/mobile experience
• Local backlinks & citations
What surprised me most is how many businesses unknowingly hurt their own visibility:
• Wrong categories selected
• Duplicate listings
• Missing service/location pages
• Poor review strategy
• Slow mobile sites
• Incomplete profiles
Curious to know from business owners here:
Have you seen Google Maps / local search actually drive meaningful leads for your business?
Also happy to take a look at a few businesses in the comments and share what I notice from a local SEO perspective.
