Today while picking up the route and entering the building after I scanned my drivers license I was heading back to go pick up my car from my route. Is that one around the corner the agent/security guard with the yellow vest that works from Amazon told me that I have to go outside and bring in an empty car and bring it to the back. I replied by saying that I have a route and I do not have time to pick up cards out of the parking lot. This is not the first time that I have been asked to assist with cards out in parking lot. Before I go any further, I do not wanna come off like a disgruntled 19 player. Most of the time if I have extra time. I will always push my car back to the designated area in the parking lot where they are kept however today after being told that I have to do it. That’s when I decided to draw a line in the sand and go speak to somebody in the back. As I did go back there and speak to whoever was in charge I brought up the fact that I was told that I had to go out to the parking lot and pick up a cart before returning to the back to pick up my stuff and if this was true? as I saw his body language and his eyes start to come up with some type of response I further said yes or no is it in our job description? He replied with it is a courtesy, and then went on to change his answers, I do believe that it is in the on boarding information when you sign up for Amazon Flex. As I am not sure if if it is or if it is not, I further went on to ask him if we were being paid or compensated for that task. I further on went to say that that is a hired position, correct? Meaning Amazon at this warehouse actually has job postings for that position. Do they not? He replied yes they do and they are paid for that position. I replied to him that as a independent contractor, I was not sure that we were paid to bring in carts from the parking lot if that was part of our responsibility. And if it in fact was not that I did not appreciate as this was not the first time that I’ve been asked to do so. I said my job is to deliver packages. I said clearly please don’t take anything the wrong way. as most of us do do our best to be team players and return cards to where they belong, however bringing them in as a requirement from outside and returning them all the way to the back of the warehouse did not seem logical. I said in retrospect if I am late with my deliveries, I’m going to get dinged I said therefore, spending extra time pushing carts from the parking lot back into the building, can impact our rating and Management as Delivery drivers. I said, if in fact that we are not required to do so I would appreciate if that message could be relayed to the personnel working in the warehouse and stop telling us that that was something that we had to do. Has anybody else run into this problem?
