Dicks bicycle is hard to ride

I’m new to biking and got an old GIANT bike off of marketplace. My wife recently got a Nishiki Pueblo from dicks and it feels super slow and sluggish in comparison. She pedals twice as hard and twice as fast just to move half the speed as me. The gears have the same amount of teeth, but I’m not sure if there’s anything else I can do to get her bike feeling smoother. Any suggestions?

Front shift cable
