Awol sa previous company, what can I do about it?

I had a my grandpa come and have a vacation, he's almost 80 now, so I asked my tl if I could get a LOA so I can spend time with him since he needs a right hand man, tl said I can't have a LOA because it isn't an emergency, so I said I'm gonna resign instead since I'd rather spend time with him, then my tl said baliw ka ba di ko tatangapin resignation mo, maybe because I was one of the 4 that carried the team in metrics, so come my day off I went to my grandpa and I got sick there so I wasn't able to get back to work, I have a medical certificate and everything, it was for about 2 weeks since my throat was swelling up informed my tl she said she doesn't believe me, so when I was gonna come to work my tl said it wouldn't matter anyway because she already marked me as awol, I didn't know at the time about the process or what I can/need to do about it, I didn't receive any communication from my tl then nor any email from the company.

I didn't know this will affect my career more that I thought, can I try anything such as contacting hr and give a resignation even though it's been months since then or other alternatives.

I've been applying to other companies for a month now, and the interviews has been going great and they like my personality and everything but for the final interview when they do a background check then ask about the awol, how do I work on explaining what do I do about it.

Tl:DR

Was going to resign, resignation was rejected by tl, was sick for weeks and got marked as awol even though I have a med cert and told her I was sick. Wanna know how to go around it when applying to other companies or if I can have a chat with hr even though it's been months
