I chose 3X Pay over WFH, did i fumble or not?

I used to work at a company na wfh, once a month ang pasok. Was a Software engineer working on multiple things, API, maintaining deployments and monitoring din. 4 Years ako dito and mabagal dn naman increase siguro 5-8k a year and never nagmove ung level ko pero dumami ang work ko

Then came May, nagkaron ako ng job offer that pays 300% more than what I am earning, Private Equity company so it paya VERY WELL, Free lunch since hybrid ang work 3x a week. May free drinks din haha
No HMO tho pero may $1k health insurance but doesn’t pay my mandatory benefits

Lately di ako masaya dito, hindi maganda ang work, just creating python scripts for payments at hindi ko na nahahawakan ang deployment side since sobrang strict nla when it comes to other people encroaching other peoples roles. Lahat ng bagay kailangan dn ng access kaht software downloads dahil mahigpit cla since fintech ito.

Di ako masaya dahil narealize ko iba pala ang peace of mind knowing na u only WFH at kahit mdami ung role ko doon, It helped me grow into who I am today.

Did I fumble the bag since I chose money over free time? Would you have done the same knowing that we are here in the PH with this bs govt lol

P.S. tried to go back pero nag close na ang chance at nag lay off dn cla sa iba so obviously they are not planning on onboarding and revoking peoples resignations.

I never thought choosing money would end up this badly, I get anxious when I step into the office knowing na I could have been just at home working.

Nilabas ko lang dn dito dahil ang hirap umupo sa bago kong work knowing na i’m not happy and I am trying to not think about it since I get anxious and bglang napapatayo at iniisp na umuwi nlng and just start over again

I went through a Shopee Internship, here's everything you need to know.

For context, I was a former intern at Shopee. I wont reveal when and at what department for privacy purposes.

The What:

---

Applying is pretty straightforward. Shopee has 2 main internship programs. BAU and AP.

BAU Internship

  • BAU is essentially the year-round internship program. This is always open and is subject the availability of slots depending on the department. It usually lasts for 3-4 months, where you can extend if you want to. Usually, Shopee hires interns when the current batch is about to graduate so they would have replacements.
  • You will mostly handle administrative tasks and support your team in day to day operations.
  • Workload largely depends on your manager on how much work they're going to give you per week.
  • You are paid close to minimum wage per day.

AP Internship / Apprentice Program

  • AP is essentially a more leveled up internship compared to BAU. It opens every year around mid December and applications ends around late February.
  • The difference here is that on top of administrative tasks, you're going to be assigned one main project that you're going to do throughout the internship, where your manager/mentor would help you throughout the way and it will end in presenting your project to local or foreign stakeholders.
  • If you succeed in this internship you would most likely be fast-tracked (meaning ur a priority or a target) for their management trainee (MT) programs. These MT programs give you the cream of the crop locally when it comes to compensation, other Reddit users have said that these pay at range of about 70-100k a month. These MT programs also expose you to upper management.
  • Pay is higher compared to BAU.

The How:

---

BAU Internship

  1. from big 4 university
  2. magna standing + dost scholar
  3. experience | 1 course "experience" where we collaborated with an ngo to make something
  4. experience | 2 low-level officership positions in orgs
  5. projects | 2 course projects
  • resume template?

https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/jakes-resume/syzfjbzwjncs

this is using latex, you can edit it by making a free account in overleaf, if you don't know latex you can chatgpt or gemini the code to format it to your liking

  • application process was -> apply to website -> someone will call/message you via sms for interview -> do interview with hr -> another interview with hiring manager -> internship offer

AP Internship

  • you can follow the shopee careers fb page | Shopee Apprentice Program also for more context
  • application process was -> apply to website -> they will send you a link to assessment (this assessment is challenging (CET level) please review well on math, logical thinking, behavioral) -> hr interview -> business manager interview -> team leader interview
  • usually there's a business case you have to solve here during the application process not sure which stage.
  • i'll say this is much more competitve historically speaking they get 30-40ish people each year, you're up against hundred or a thousand+ of applications.

The Experience:

---

  1. Shopee is a good working environment for interns. Experience varies, and is dependent on your manager for workload and schedule. For example: if you're manager is nice they can give you less work if you inform them you have exams upcoming.
  2. Schedule is strict when it comes to x3 F2F per week at the Ortigas office, WFH experience depends on your manager if they will give you work or not. You can take online classes at the office and at your desk.
  3. Working hours is normally 10am-7pm, this is not super strict though, if for example you get to office at 10:30 just compensate for the hours and go home a bit later and you are fine.
  4. Pay is per hour you clocked in.
  5. Work wise, as an intern don't expect to be given the same responsibilities as a full-time hire. Access to internal tools should be at an intern level, and don't expect to be given work that can potentially cost the company if you mess up. Interns are expected to learn and immerse themselves in the working environment and support the team.

Some nuances I'd like to bring up:

---

  1. Shopee, like other MNCs are biased towards UP, ADMU, and DLSU. During my stay I had not met any interns outside from this circle. Does this mean they exclusively hire interns from these universities? No. But you have to pull your credentials more to get in and showcase you got the skills and what it takes. However, please note the advantage for these universities is mostly applied during these internships and fresh grads. I've met great, skilled regular hires not from these univeristies during my internship.
  2. While being the leading e-commerce platform in the country, tech-wise it's not state of the art as you would expect, everything is still done through Google sheets, docs, powerpoints.
  3. We also frequently collaborate with other regions such as Taiwan, other SEA countries. Expect there will be times where you need to speak with foreign people. Shopee does treat their interns as regular hires, but it does not give them regular hire responsibility if that make sense. You won't see yourself being someone who makes coffee for the team or prints papers, etc.

Is Shopee for you?

  • If you ultimately want the name of the leading e-commerce platform in the Philippines on your resume, go for it. While 3 days F2F, 10am-7pm is hard to do for 3-4 consecutive months while balancing normal academic workload and work can sometimes be boring and repetitive. The importance is you immerse yourself in the working environment as a preview to your adult life. See how your team works, ask them questions, etc. In my experience, Shopee will open doors to other MNCs and makes applying much more easier, since they know you got vetted by them.

If y'all got any questions, go lang! Hope this helps.

Legit ba yung ‘Hiring freeze’ ng companies recently?

I was recently unemployed and did applied for job openings and even sought by developers (competitors of my previous employer that let me go *eye rolls*), but i am just wondering— was I not considered because I asked for a high compensation or did the companies and consultantcy firms (yes, multiple) really had a hiring freeze due to the freakin’ crisis?

I wanna think that its not because of my competency kasi I know my resumé is impressive enough. Pero ang unfair lang na yung field of my expertise is not given much value as the engineers and architects, when in fact mas konti kami and what I do gives higher value to the development.

For now, iniisip ko medyo pagupain muna yung crisis kasi baka naman maghiring ulit yung same companies that I applied. Baka totoong affected sila) pero di ko din talaga maalis sa isip na nagtitipid ba sila kaya laging entry level gusto nila or talagang walang value sa corporate yung field na tinahak ko.

Does San Miguel Brewery Ghost Final Interview Candidates?

To those who applied at SMB and got to the final interview, do they email you to tell you that they chose other candidates for the role? It’s been a week since my final interview and no news from them. I’m so tired of this. My application took two months and they’d just ghost me after all that. A generic AI generated rejection email would even suffice for me by now.

I’m tired of applying for jobs in general. 7 months since I started applying after graduating and still did not land a job. I wanna give up. 😭

Super nakakababa ng self-esteem and self-confident

Since January until now, I’m still in my job-hunting era. I received two job offers during the early months, but the salary was really low (Manila area), so I had to reject them. I’ve had a lot of initial interviews, and only a few final interviews but a lot of silent rejections. By the way, I’m in the healthcare profession.

Honestly, job hunting has been draining — it really lowers my self-esteem and confidence, to the point where I just want to cry and disappear sometimes.

My parents aren’t pressuring me, but deep down I know they have expectations. They once told me that if I rejected the first offer, I might not get another one — and they were right, haha. On the other hand, My sister is the only one who constantly tells me to start working already, and sometimes she says "baka hindi ko ginagalingan”. That really hurts my self-esteem, so I often avoid talking to her, even about unrelated things. Maybe she’s right, though — when I had a get-together with my friends who already have jobs, their interview answers sounded so impressive compared to mine, which felt plain. I do watch TikTok videos and even ask ChatGPT for ideas, but still.

And at some point when i received an opportunity for initial interview, I always think that I'm not doing my best and that I'll be left with silent rejection. Even though i don't want to be negative, it's just that I can't help it.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m just dreaming too big. Is it wrong to want to work in a hospital? To aim for a salary that’s at least decent? At this point, I’m exhausted from sending resumes because I feel like I’ve already applied to almost every hospital in Manila.

All I really want is to help my parents financially, because life in the Philippines is so tough. I just comfort myself by remembering what others say — that the job market right now is really difficult.

Finally 🥹

Finally, after 8 months of job hunting after graduation... may work na ako 😭

After sending more than 100 applications, attending countless interviews, dealing with rejections, ghostings, and moments where I questioned myself if I was even good enough kasi girlllll Magna Cum Laude pa ako but now I am finally employed.

Kaya don't give up on urself. Keep applying, keep improving, and keep showing up even when it gets frustrating.

Job dust to everyone!!! ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

BPO is either your stepping stone or your comfort zone

May mga tao na ginagamit ang BPO para makaipon at mag-grow. May iba naman na nagstay dahil stable at okay ang opportunities. Honestly parehong valid.

Sa inyo, temporary career path ba ang BPO or long-term plan?

[HIRING] Senior Property Manager | Remote | $960–$1,280 USD/month

Company: Suites by VTJ — property management company in Raleigh, NC managing residential, commercial, and short-term rental properties.

Role: Senior Property Manager, fully remote

Pay: $960–$1,280 USD/month paid in USD via Wise.

Schedule: 8 AM – 5 PM ET, Monday to Friday, 40 hours/week.

What this job actually is:

You run the day-to-day property operation. Lease review before anything goes to tenants. Rent reminders and late notices — consistent, documented, every time. Maintenance tickets tracked from report to close. Vendors held accountable. A Junior APM whose work you check before it reaches anyone. Tenant communications in English and Spanish (Spanish is preferred, not required — we have tenants who only speak Spanish).

This is not a VA role. You're not supporting someone else's process — you own one.

What's hard about this role — being honest:

  • You work US Eastern hours. The schedule is what it is.
  • You'll deal with difficult tenants. Some will push back, some won't respond, some will dispute charges. You need to handle that calmly and firmly without escalating everything.
  • It's fully remote with no one looking over your shoulder. If you need daily check-ins to stay on track, this won't work.
  • Attention to detail on lease documents matters. One wrong date or missing addendum is a real problem.

What's good about it:

  • Real autonomy. You make the call — escalate only what genuinely needs the management.
  • Stable USD pay.
  • Small team, no corporate bureaucracy.
  • Your work is visible and your impact is measurable.

Who should apply:

  • 3+ years in property management, leasing, or real estate ops
  • Residential + commercial experience preferred (not required, but the portfolio has both)
  • Has supervised or reviewed a junior team member's output and addressed it directly when it wasn't good enough
  • Professional English required. Professional Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Home office: 60 Mbps+ internet (you'll need to submit a screenshot), dual monitors, 16GB+ RAM

Who shouldn't:

  • Never worked remote and has no idea what their own accountability system looks like
  • Spanish is listed on their resume but they can't write a professional sentence in it
  • Has managed only single-family residential and nothing else
  • Needs structure and oversight to stay productive

The hiring process — no hidden steps:

  1. Application on Google Form — 4 knockout questions + internet speed screenshot
  2. Pre-assessment — 45 to 60 minutes, sent to passing applicants only
  3. Google Meet interview — includes a live check of your workspace
  4. Reference calls with two former direct supervisors

That last part: we call your former managers. We tell every candidate this before they apply. If that's a problem, this isn't the right fit. If it's not — strong candidates don't hesitate.

Apply: https://forms.gle/gHpxJTpUpLxbQWou9

Any questions, drop them in the comments.

BPO literally changed my life

Dati sobrang insecure ako makipag-usap in English.

People love to joke about BPO jobs, pero honestly, minsan dito talaga nagsisimula magbago buhay ng tao.

Has anyone tried applying at Cambridge University Press & Assessment?

Despite my work experience, certifications, and where I studied, I’ve been rejected by this company more than I could count.

And weirdly enough, even people I know that are also more qualified than me have also been rejected in the same roles multiple times.

Is there any insight as to what goes on during their hiring process that makes it almost impossible to get in?

should i leave my voluntary internship?

organizational comms student in my 2nd internship rn, in human resources for an insurance firm... masaya naman ako at first na i got in cuz it looks like its difficult to get in and i'm working with a lot of masipag na voluntary interns din

all of us are under this one mentor who i have yet to hear from formally pa :/ i dont know if its normal for senior interns to onboard you instead of your mentor but they've become more of my bosses and i noticed that the mentor herself just asks for results or asks if we've hired anybody na .... which is kinda odd to me cuz i was expecting to learn more about handling admin & clerical work (and improving processes for my seniors). we hire and post job opportunities and invite them to orientations that happen at night that you have to attend to check if the people you hired are actually there (sigh)

idk if choosy lang ako but the working hours last until 10 pm, and the expectation is mas active ka from 12 noon until 10pm, cuz thats when everyone else is active... but i feel like its contradictory to the "work on your own time" thing they're promoting. parang kailangan na on ka all the time, and its draining me :/. i have multiple readings per week for four majors and i was hoping to work during the day since i study better at night, pero wala. i've got orgs i care for like volunteering for events/workshops and art advocacy stuff and i'm scared i'll be pulled away from those too

and medyo dumb but i also got kinda tricked?? dun sa job posting kasi they advertised na we'd only have to work a min of 200 hours on our own time pero pagdating ko biglaang 300 pala, and announced on the whim by our mentor pa :/ medyo nakukulangan ako sa professionalism pero sige keri naman. hindi ko alam kung puwede mag change ng ganong required hours kaagad without due process pero sige. but even if we work on our own terms ayon nga my mentor wants results quickly. i dont know if i can sustain meeting their expectations all the time at unhealthy working hours

lastly i also feel bad about what we're tasked to do kasi parang di siya nag-aalign sa dream career ko ;__; but its something i also wanted to try for more opportunities in the future because i do care about org processes and listening to peoples' needs. its unpaid pa, and i think id rather do something unpaid that im happy with rather than something unpaid to expand my options :/

sorry ang haba but tl:dr just miserable, told to work ungodly hours and yield high results even though they promote working at your own time, mentor kinda absent and carried by senior interns, should i quit or see where this goes?

HR Calling without texting first

I’ve been recently in contact with two companies that I applied for (one local and the other international) and encountered extremely opposite behaviors. Guess who’s on the negative end 🤦🏻‍♀️

2/3 HRs from that big local company have disappointed me in all possible ways throughout my application and employment stages. Why? They’ve been spamming my calls without even texting first. Like wtf? One time, the hr spam called me 😭😭 7 consecutive times. Only after the 7th call, they thought hey maybe we should text her first and you know what the hr called me 7x for? Just to confirm some details 😭 (Note: I wasn’t able to pick up because I was at work in a meeting).

Ive been pretty frustrated with them so I resorted here to find out if this is an acceptable or ‘normal’ practice in the recruitment industry. AND TO MY DISMAY, APPARENTLY IT IS??? LIKE WHY?? Sobrang di ko inexpect yung responses ng mga tao to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/JobsPhilippines/s/C3voULqu3h

Because what do you mean OP is entitled by just wanting professionalism from the frontline of the company? I get you’re screening a lot of applicants but hey isnt that YOUR job? Why not do it properly?
AND PROFESSIONALLY.

Oh and before you argue that Im an entitled applicant who cant speak well through the phone, I’m telling you.. i’m not :) and my credentials can speak for that.

I dont know kung ano ba yang recruitment/hiring/screening practice na tinuturo ngayon sa recruitment field, but can we NORMALIZE texting first before calling? And like not spam call your potential hire 😭 Isnt it basic etiquette to assume the person’s not available for a phone call lalo na kung di nya nasagot yung tawag mo nang dalawang beses na?

I’ve had my fair share of application and employment processes but so far only with international companies (based in the PH). I may have assumed their standards unintentionally. But daym, even in the recruitment process we, as Filipinos, are stooping down this low in terms of professionalism?
