Seeking career advice as a Fresh grad

Hi everyone! I’m a fresh Computer Engineering graduate, and I just wanted to ask if it’s okay to start my career in an IT Support or Help Desk role?

Coding wasn’t really my strongest skill during college, so I’m curious if anyone here took the same path. I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks!

1k salary increase after waiting for almost 2 yrs

Been with the company for almost 2 yrs. Hindi ako na-increasan last yr because every July lang sila nag-iincrease and pumasok na ako Oct. I was told last week by my manager that my company has a cap of 1-3% increase this yr. I would say na nasa 3% ako dahil our metric for a day is to achieve like 80 but I go beyond and has an average of 140 for the past yr.

Sa salary ko ngayon, 3% is like 1k lang.

Honest reaction? Mas matindi pa sa feeling ng broken hearted.

I love what I do sa company, the team, the manager is very considerate, and most importantly hybrid pa. But, nightshift. My company is somewhat like a staffing agency for offshore employee and my company is in the US, so I was expecting “more” tbh.

I’ll try to negotiate if they can make it 10k. Is anyone here has the same experience sa akin? What did you do?

Anong pwede gawin sa useless degree ko?

I graduated last year with a BS in Tourism, but honestly, I feel like my degree isn’t very useful. I only have 4 months of work experience from my first job, which paid ₱15k a month, and I eventually resigned.

Right now, I’ve been applying for office/admin jobs, but most of the offers are still around ₱15k, and I haven’t been getting hired.

I’m thinking about switching to the BPO industry instead. Is it possible to build a stable, long-term career in BPO even if my degree is unrelated? Has anyone here started in BPO with a “useless” degree and managed to grow their career?

I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences or advice. Thank you!

Alorica as my first and safe option

Hello, may I know if there’s any other company better than Alorica? Any recommendations would be appreciated ❤️

I heard Alorica is a good training ground for newbie so that’s why I put it first on my list of BPO companies to try, upon gathering info here and online, the common downside is their low offer.

Secret on how to get a Job!

The funny part is that there isn't really a secret. The people who consistently get offers aren't always the most talented. They're usually the easiest to hire.

Here's what I've found, and it matches what recruiters and hiring managers repeatedly say:

  1. Solve their problem, not yours. Most applicants talk about what they want. The strongest candidates show they understand what the company needs and explain how they'll solve it.

  2. Customize every application. Don't send the same resume and portfolio everywhere. Match the job description. If they're looking for any specific skill, make those impossible to miss.

  3. Have a portfolio that answers one question: "Can this person do our work?" Beautiful work helps. Relevant work gets hired.

4.Write a cover letter that sounds human. Don't repeat your resume. Tell them why you're interested in their company, what problem you noticed, and how you can help.

  1. Research the company before the interview. Learn their products, clients, competitors, and recent work. You'll ask better questions and give better answers.

  2. Treat the first interview as an intelligence gathering.

Prepare a list of questions to ask for the initial interview and use that to the final interview.

  1. Follow up. A short, professional follow-up email a few days after an interview keeps you memorable without being pushy.

  2. Keep leveling up while applying. Every week, add something new to your portfolio, learn a new tool, or improve an existing project. Your applications get stronger over time.

Fresh Grad hindi alam ang gagawin

I graduated recently and I have this growing pressure even before pa ako maka-graduate. Pakiramdam ko may impostor syndrome ako kasi feeling ko laging hindi good enough ang aking skills. Dahil dito alangan din ako if maga-apply na ba ako for work.

Tips/advice for a fresh grad starting my first job soon?

Hi! Soo I'll be starting my first-ever full-time job in a few days, and honestly, I'm excited but also pretty nervous. I'm a fresh grad and don't have much internship experience, so I feel like there's still a lot I don't know.

For those who've been through it, what advice would you give to survive (and hopefully do well) during the first few weeks or anything you wish someone told you before your first day? I'd love to hear your experiences and tips plzz!

Fresh grad looking for govt work

I recently graduated po with a degree in Social Science na may major-minor focus (I did History-Psychology po). Medyo nahihirapan po ako mag-apply. I was thinking po sa mga cultural agencies like NHCP since they're currently hiring history researchers pero as a fresh graduate na walang work experience, alam ko pong malaki yung chance na hindi ako ma-consider. I've been trying to find other related jobs through linkedin, jobstreet, you name it pero super kaunti lang po ngayon ng vacancies na open for fresh grads. I only have my Magna Cum Laude and certificates for the research conferences and workshops I attended to as well as my experience working at my student organization—even I know these are barely enough.

Ano po kayang ways in order to get a job sa govt (kahit pati private companies na po)? I'm not looking for a high paying job naman po. I know naman po yung current situation and place ko. Gusto ko lang po magka-trabaho, take on new tasks and challenges and somehow be able to use the skills that I gathered from my four years in university. Any advice is appreciated po!

Face to face initial interview

hii, im from the province (specifically from the south) currently looking for opportunities. ive been invited a few times sa mga inapplyan ko, may ilan na virtual ang interview (which i prefer) kaso yung iba face to face sila magconduct ng interview kahit initial pa lang naman. worth it bang attenan yung mga ganun? bbyahe ka para sa initial interview lang?

iniisip ko kase yung effort, sa byahe pa lang saka transpo fee for an interview na wala naman assurance kung mattanggap.

Would you take this offer or keep looking? (Fresh grad)

Need advice lang.
Fresh grad here. I got an offer for a Reporting Analyst position, but during the interview they mentioned id be doing customer service first for “immersion”. I initially thought temporary lang, pero based on the discussion parang permanent setup siya so CSR + reporting on the side.
Offer is around ₱25k gross, but I’d have to relocate to Manila. Leaves (5 SL, 5 VL) are only available after 1 year.
I’m not really pressured to accept a job immediately since I haven’t even had my graduation rites yet, and thankfully wala rin akong sinusuportahan financially, pero a part of me is nanghihinayang sa kikitain ko na sana haha. My biggest concern tho is that I really want to pursue reporting/business analyst roles, and I’m worried this might steer me away from that path.
Would you take this or keep looking for something more aligned with my career goals?

Possible pa ba to find a new job at 42?

Don't have a job for 6 mos now after leaving a company of 16 years. No bad blood naman I'm really grateful sa company and was very well taken care of. It's just that I had an opportunity to buy a property in the province and just had to manage house construction for a couple of months..kapag di ko pa kasi binili yung 90sqm na land, di ko na sya mabibili kahit kelan. Though right now after the house is already constructed, I need a job to pay the loan, also ofc to eat and live.

Kaso nasa over 300 plus na pinasahan ko resume no call back. I think ATS is automatically filtering age and desired salary

Anyway I have experience in Small Accounting. Accounts payable and receivables, invoices and deals creation, audit and recons. I think my last salary was 70k monthly pero lahat ng ipon ubos dahil kahit sa province ang mahal ng 30sqm na bahay. Plus may loan pa. And ofc I had expenses in those 6mos.

Any leads, please advise, I'm more than happy to apply.

Salamat po

After 1 month of job hunting, I got my first ever job: QA Analyst (Production)

Hi! As the title says, I got my first ever job as a QA Analyst (Engineering). I recently passed the board exam and got bored agad kaya inayos ko CV ko at nag-apply sa mga iba’t ibang jobs. I don’t have something specific na gusto kong maging role kaya kahit saang entry-level na lang ako nag-submit ng mga applications. I noticed na maraming opening sa role na QA Analyst. Triny ko lang naman kahit hindi pa clear sa akin ‘yung description. Just last 2 weeks ago, na-invite ako for an interview from two companies offering QA Analyst. Tinimbang ko muna ‘yung dalawang companies based sa layo from our bahay and dun ako nag-decide kung ano ‘yung bibigyan ko ng priority if ever ma-call ako for final interview. Fortunately, ‘yung mas gusto kong company ‘yung nag-reach out ulit for final interview. After ilang days, nag-email ng job offer kaya masaya ako.

For the people who started with the same role, I have a question. How’s the future of this path? Are the opportunities for QA worth it? Ano na po role niyo ngayon?

Gusto ko po kasi sana mag-invest sa sarili ko to grow on this exact role (QA/QC) para kahit if lilipat ako ng company, same niche pa rin hanggang maabot ko ‘yung ceiling (in the far future).

People who rejected a full-time offer after your internship, do you regret it?

A friend of mine recently shared something that got me thinking.

She interned at a company she enjoyed. She made a lot of friends, learned a ton, and even received a full-time offer at the end of the internship. I thought accepting it would be a no-brainer.

Instead, she turned it down for a more well-known company. The pay was better, and she thought it would look stronger on her resume.

A few months later, she ended up leaving that company and admitted she sometimes wishes she had stayed with her internship company instead. She said the transition was much tougher than she expected. As a full-time hire, she was expected to hit the ground running, the support wasn't the same as when she was an intern, and she never really felt like she fit in.

By the time she realized she'd made the wrong decision, the return offer was gone and the position had already been filled by someone else.

It made me curious how often this actually happens and what people usually end up doing.

For those who rejected a full-time offer after your internship, do you regret it?

Or did that decision end up working out better for you?

NAIA/MIA Hiring

I’ve always dreamt of working in the Aviation industry, specifically being a Pilot pero hindi kinaya ng average na required for college admission, and kahit pasok ang average ko hindi din pala kaya ng budget HAHAHA so ni let go ko na yon pero iba talaga fascination ko sa airplanes so sabi ko kahit magkapag work na lang ako sa airports.

Pano po kaya makapasok sa airport? As worker ha HAHAHA i mean san nakikita kung may hiring? Kasi wala ako nakikita sa mga apps like Jobstreet, Indeed, Linkedin, etc. and ano po kaya pwede ko maging work? Btw, I’m an Industrial Engineering Graduate.

Am I ghosted na ba or not? - Software Dev Internship

I applied for an intern job listing about a week ago, and a few days later I received a message saying that I had been shortlisted. They mentioned that they wanted to conduct a short interview and that they would send me a separate message with the interview schedule.

I replied to their message as soon as I could, but it's been several days now and I still haven't received any follow-up regarding the interview. I managed to find the HR recruiter on LinkedIn.

Would it be appropriate to message them directly to follow up, or should I wait a bit longer?
