IMO, the 90s had the funniest start and finish in terms of music

The 90s was considered as the decade that kicked out all the stupid synth sellout music but we welcomed it back as fast as we kicked it out when the decade ended

No one from 1991 would think music would look like the right photo

Types of pop music fans

This is all for joke, you can like any music you like

The Alt
You don’t have any friends, I’m sorry, but you live a lonely life
Most people on Reddit are probably this person (including all of us)
Your entire personality is textbook pretentious male (or female), you follow music sites like RYM and Pitchfork and you follow people like Anthony Fantano
You listen to anything with substance rather than style
You call Swifties basic
Your favorite artists are: Charli XCX, Bjork, Slayyyter, Magdalena Bay

The Emo
You had a decent amount of friends, idk
Most people in this phase already grew out of this phase because they aren’t 15 anymore
Your entire personality is Tumblr
You are the opposite of the alt, in that you listen to anything that fits your really breakable mold, no matter how terrible it is
You say you’re the “Creepypasta” person when in reality you’re the “Justin Bieber or One Direction” person
Your favorite artists are: Halsey, Melanie Martinez, Troye Sivan, Marina and the Diamonds

The Oldhead
No one likes you because you are just annoying to talk to at your unripe age
Most people pushing 55 are this person (or they are one of those “I was born in the wrong generation” kids)
Your entire personality is commenting on old 80s music videos on YouTube saying that music today sucks because it no longer sounds like a high school marching band surrounded by synths
If you existed back then, everyone would’ve called you basic, or you would’ve been a goth person instead and called them basic
Your favorite artists are: Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, ABBA

The NPC
You have friends and no one hates you at all, but that doesn’t mean they like you
Most people on the world fits this criteria
Your entire personality is whatever is trending to like or hate on TikTok and Twitter, oh and you absolutely follow PopBase
You don’t care about substance, or even style, you just want whatever is on the Today’s Top Hits playlist
You… ARE the Swifties, you… ARE basic
Your favorite artists are: Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo

People make fun of the stomp clap, but the early 80s slow ballad bands are just as bad

The bands like Air Supply and Chicago, were the original stomp clap, and they weren’t great at all

A lot of those early 80s ballad songs were cheesy af, and they are basically forgotten by everyone unless you’re living in like Southeast Asia (like in my case here)

I loved The Odyssey but I’m still very confused as to why Nolan decided to begin it with a detergent commercial

It also started with trailers for other movies, which is also weird as hell

Which artist failed to exploit the hype and the momentum they got the hardest?

A 7 year follow-up to your first album is insane, not to mention that Cardi had so much momentum during the pandemic with WAP and Up and decided not to cash in right away

How tf did Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall became mega successful despite the massive disco backlash?

If anyone else did a pure disco album on their own around the same time, they would’ve been a Trainwreckord episode by now

How did Off the Wall still be successful, despite being released a couple weeks after Disco Demolition Night, the day that made disco reviled and stopped being played in the radio?

Not to mention that Michael hasn’t established himself as a solo artist and is more known for being in the Jackson 5

It is physically impossible for Cary Grant to still be alive today (had he not died)

Had he not died in 1986 and still lived, he would’ve surpassed Jeanne Calment’s lifespan

Hot take: We’re gonna see a lot of 2010s artists go stinky next decade, and I can’t wait

I posted something similar to this in this sub while back and I’m doubling down on this take

It’s natural that artists don’t become good for ever, especially after 20 years into their career due to changing trends in music and failing to adapt to appeal to the next generation that determines listeners

No one can escape it, if Paul McCartney or Bob Dylan can go bad after 20 years, what hope do lesser artists like Tyga have by the 2030s

This may sound really mean, but I’m both excited and scared to see how terrible the artists of the 2010s are gonna be and imagining all the Trainwreckords we’ll get by the 2030s

Does anyone else feel that way?
