my sister (f, minor) and i (f, adult) are trying to renew our passports, however my current passport has my sister’s photo and hers has mine. our parents have tried to fix it multiple times over the years but failed. when the letter asking for our previous passports came my father angrily took a lighter to the passports, burnt the pages with our photos off and sent them both back. we now need to send an explanation for the passports’ condition. both my parents want to just vaguely say it was an accident to get it over with but it obviously wasn’t an accident and it doesn’t look like one at all. if i tell the truth instead will it get my parents in trouble? will it cause issues for my sister if our statements don’t line up?
