AJ Fernandez Dias de Gloria

Decided to light this one today and it didn’t disappoint. Beautiful presentation with the cedar sleeve and the detailed gold/red bands — definitely one of the better looking cigars in my humidor. Medium cigar with notes of cedar, coffee, leather, earth, pepper, with the pepper becoming much more prominent in the final third.
The construction and burn were excellent from start to finish, exactly what you’d expect from AJ Fernandez. Paired really nicely with the rum I had as the sweetness balanced the spice perfectly.

Out of all the AJ cigars I’ve smoked so far, this and the Bellas Artes Maduro are easily my favorites.

After trying the Mighty Mighty Maduro a couple of months ago, I was wondering how the Robusto was going to smoke.

It’s a medium-to-full cigar with a Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper over Nicaraguan filler and binder. It starts with notes of earth, leather, cocoa, and a touch of pepper. As it progresses into the second third, some sweetness appears and I must say I found the other notes really well balanced here. In the final third, the sweetness disappeared and the cigar became more earthy and peppery. Compared with the Mighty Mighty Maduro, I remember the pepper being much more prominent right from the start. The cigar itself was much more intense and required much more time to smoke. I found the combustion to be a bit inconsistent both vitolas had a very wavy burn line and I even had to relight the cigar.

Of course, there are better maduros out there, but overall, for the price this is a solid stick. If I buy this cigar again, it would definitely be the Robusto.
