I’m looking for advice on getting into the BOP, specifically FCI Elkton.
I currently have close to 2 years of experience at a private correctional facility and am trying to get a realistic understanding of how that experience is viewed during the hiring process. I’ve heard mixed opinions about private corrections and being younger, I’m also curious how much that may factor in.
In my current role, I’ve worked a range of posts, including central control, perimeter, armed transport, and general housing unit operations. I’ve also had to learn and follow policies across multiple contracts, complete reports, and adapt to different procedures depending on assignments.
I have no disciplinary history or write-ups, and I’ve been told I may qualify for GL-7 or possibly GL-8 depending on how my experience is reflected on my resume.
I’m mainly looking for honest insight regarding:
The hiring process at Elkton
Resume advice
Shift schedules
Where new hires usually start
Day-to-day expectations
How competitive my background may realistically be
I’m trying to make a good long-term decision for my career and family, so any straightforward advice would be greatly appreciated. PMs are welcome.
