Chances as a correctional deputy
If I’ve done written, physical, interview, at home interview and only need poly psych and med. What do you think my chances are to get an academy date? Thank you guys for all your help.
BOP CO
After having to revise resume and reapplying around 3 times. Stupid AI nonsense.
How long was the hiring process for you guys that have applied recently?
Do softer CO's make you feel uncomfortable on the inside?
A lot of these younger officers coming into the system these days are unfortunately very soft. These folks are very unwilling to engage physically with the inmates and don't like to participate in bd's. Its one thing to stick to the training and being a stickler for all the rules and regulations but when these naive kids are compromising other officers personal income streams and other conduct, its a problem. If these guys won't participate in a bd then how do I know they have my back when I actually need it? Its not like the old days when other officers used to respect each other and whatever private business they have going on, now there is constant backbiting and worry about rats.
Need some insight
Hii
Good Evening n Happy 4th
I have a question, I have a close family member thats about to do Federal Time smh. A " non violent " drug and gun case. I want to know " IF " eligible for the first step act, they can stack that with the 85% good behavior rule?

Noted:
They have a closed state case, a traffic stop involving a firearm ( possession ), only thing that was on their criminal record. .
CTP3 Invites: Let's Find Others Going to the Same Work Location.
Congratulations to everyone who received a CTP3 invite!
I'm going to Kingston for CTP3, (SEP 4) and my offered work location is Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
If anyone else would like to share their training and work locations, feel free to do so. It would be great to connect with others heading to the same location and share insights.
How are inmates treated that are withdrawing from alcohol once admitted?
Particularly in Canada- I’m just curious how your jail deals with this because it is fatal. Do any of the inmates have to be hospitalized?
I’m just a curious sub, not a CO.
Bop EOD
So the regional office have my paperwork and reviewing it they asked for another document for approval and I’ve sent that back to them last week I’m supposed to start 7/13 is it possible to get my EOD this week coming up to still start on 7/13?
North Carolina County Jails or Prisons?
I’m a 26 year old corrections deputy with about 2 years of experience at a county jail. My lease is up next year and I’m seriously thinking about relocating my family to North Carolina for better long term opportunities. The areas I’m looking at are Butner, Oxford, Hillsborough, and Wake County in general.
I’d love some real talk from people who work or have worked in NC corrections. How do the county jails compare to the state prisons in those areas? Pay, overtime, staffing. Do any of them stand out for better pay or benefits, especially for someone with prior experience?
Deputy Royce James and Supervisor Disciplined for Misconduct and a Full Federal Expungement Issued to Firefighter/PM Gabrielle Franze.
SUSTAINED FINDINGS AGAINST DEPUTY JAMES AND SGT GONZALEZ ARE: Negligence; Failure to use Body Camera: General Proficiency of the law; Failure to supervise; And Disciplinary Rules (for conduct or actions of such seriousness, it warrants being disciplined)
We all heard about the Firefighter who allegedly threw tampons on her ex-boyfriends yard because she was jealous of a new girlfriend right? Well, HOLD ON for THIS ride, ladies and gentlemen! THAT was not the reality!
The "ex" and his "new girlfriend"
Gabrielle’s “Ex” and his “new girlfriend” failed to provide any evidence of any alleged harassment or stalking when asked for it by the state's attorney. Both the “ex” boyfriend and his new girlfriend also refused to be deposed under oath for the Internal Affairs Investigation.
The State's Attorney
Gabrielle Franze was administratively expunged from all charges of stalking by FDLE (up to the FBI level), because, according to the State's Attorney, Gabrielle did not commit the crime of Stalking; had no contact with her ex for two years; never contacted his new girlfriend; and had no domestic relationship with his new girlfriend. The State's Attorney concluded it was a non-criminal littering event, eligible for a littering ticket.
The Detective at the Scene
According to depositions, the new girlfriend called a deputy “friend” to complain after being told by the investigating detective on the scene that the littering event was not stalking. Detective Barnard stated that he explained to the girlfriend that because Gabrielle had no “domestic” relationship with her, no prior contact, and no other events had ocurred; it was littering and not the stalking charge she wanted.
The detective also advised the new girlfriend that it didn’t meet “criminal mischief” charges either, because no permanent damage was caused. He advised her to call if another event happens, and he closed the case.
Deputy Royce James
Royce James, a deputy from another district, happens to have an office beside the "new girlfriends" firehouse. Deputy James engaged in discussion with "the new girlfriend," but did so without turning on his body camera. He did, however, reopen the littering case to categorize it as "stalking" and arrested Gabrielle.
James charged Gabrielle with domestic violence stalking against the new girlfriend, a woman she had never met and had no domestic relationship with in a stunning act of incompetence.
The Depositions
Prior to Deputy James making the arrest, multiple deputies, a sergeant, and a lieutenant all gave statements of attempts to intervene by advising Deputy James that the event did not meet the stalking statute requirement, because it was a single event with no pattern of conduct. Deputy James proceeded anyway.
Deputy Royce James demonstrated in deposition how he “Reverse-Engineered” facts and took littering off the table (for reasons unknown), because he “felt” it was stalking. He doubled down further by declaring in his testimony that the judge, the detective, the state's attorney, and internal affairs investigators were all wrong, and he is right.
Is littering morally wrong? Yes, no one should litter. No one should toilet-paper a house after a Friday night ball game, either, but more importantly, an officer of the law cannot arrest a citizen based on emotion over written law.
When pressed, Deputy Royce James continued stating he didn’t “feel” it was right until internal affairs investigators reminded him that it is not his job to enforce feelings; it is his job to enforce established, written law, and if he didn’t like that, then use his right to vote for candidates to change it.
Finally, the depositions and body cam prove that Deputy James misled his supervisor intentionally, or unintentionally, to gain approval to arrest Gabrielle, and omitted facts that disproved the stalking charge and narrative on his arrest affidavit. The same arrest affidavit that was used by international media as the sole source to perpetuate the narrative wrongly characterizing Gabrielle as an unhinged, crazy, jealous ex-girlfriend stalker. That narrative is proven false, but still delivered a life sentence online for Gabrielle.
Deputy James told his supervisor that Gabrielle “confessed to everything,” while the body camera footage shows she repeatedly denied any part of planning the event or throwing anything. In fact, Deputy James admitted in deposition to receiving a confession from another person and said he didn’t think “it was relevant.” He did not inform his supervisor of the confession either.
Gabrielle stated she did “drive to an address given to her, but didn’t know belonged to her ex,” and somewhere along the drive, “she began to suspect”, but didn’t confirm it until after the fact. Driving a vehicle when someone else littered isn't a crime.
And it gets worse.
In the arrest affidavit, Deputy James frames Gabrielle as a “liar” and knowingly misled the public by omitting the confession of another person who took responsibility for littering before the arrest.
As if that isn’t enough to make you scratch your head raw…
He broke each step that the person who stated they littered and "purchased, prepared, and threw" the litter and assigned each step as a separate event of harassment by Gabrielle. It is irrational to use a single event on a single night as multiple actions to meet the legal “course of conduct” and “repeated” events requirements for domestic violence stalking charges. The arrest affidavit was invalidated the moment it was ruled to lack sufficient probable cause.
His arrest rationale failed the legal test and definitely fails the public sniff test.
So, what have we learned?
For Gabrielle—littering is wrong, and if someone else litters, RUN!!. Kidding, but listen, it wasn't a crime and clearly the whole "jealousy" angle was pointed at the wrong person.
For Deputy James—Learn the law. No citizen who litters one time and causes no permanent damage deserves to be arrested for stalking- a charge that DOES cause permanent damage. Unless of course, reputational damage was the goal?
In this case, we’re all left to still wonder about what Deputy James' motive was? Was it ego? Was it for Live PD content? Was it big emotions? A Favor? Arrogance? Or just a mistake? We may never know.
Shout out to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Investigators who did a great job of uncovering the truth in this case. They acted with integrity and did solid investigative work!
What do you think Gabrielle should do with the findings?
Attempted Homicide of California State Prison, Sacramento Officer Under Investigation
thetoughestbeat.comDisqualified
Good morning, so I failed my Psych Exam to work for the DOC in Rikers Island. I got a lawyer and a psych doctor to fight it and Civil Service Commission reviewed the case and made the decision to not over turn the disqualification. My lawyer advices that if I wanted to take it up a notch a file and Article 78 processing. But what would ya’ll recommend? I’m over it so I’m just planning on leaving it as that. I’m already working in the M.T.A. as a bus operator. And I also passed the train operator exam I was emailed yesterday. What would ya do if you were in my position?
Summer boots
I live and work Virginia and right now it is burning up in this state. This weekend it’s over 100 and the other day I had to watch the pill window outside. My feet were literally burning and it was because I had on all leather boots. Luckily I have several boots I rotate through (no goretex) so I threw on my old danner tachyions which seem to be more breathable but I’m curious what other boots are people wearing to try to stay cool during the summer months? I hate under armor shoes because every pair I’ve ever owned fall apart in no time but I gotta admit the boots look kinda tempting right now since they’re light weight and more of a shoe style boot. Any way I’m curious about what other people do.
BOP FCI Seagoville – Medical Exam and New CO Questions
I’m currently a state CO and going through the hiring process for BOP at FCI Seagoville. I was wondering what the medical exam is actually like. Is it just a normal physical with vision, hearing, blood pressure, etc., or do they make you do anything physical during the exam? Also, how strict are they with weight or BMI, and if something gets flagged, do they give you a chance to get cleared by your own doctor?
I’m also curious about Seagoville in general. How’s the staffing, how often are new officers getting mandated, what schedules do new hires usually work, and what’s the overall work environment like? If anyone has made the jump from state corrections to Seagoville or BOP in general, I’d appreciate hearing how the transition was and whether you think it was worth it.
Hey CO
Looking for some info and general advice. Thinking about leaving where I’m at and going to a federal prison. Is it worth it ? Is it stupid ? Is it smart ? Is it better than county and state ? Really just want to get some people’s insight on it, anything helps. Thanks guys happy 4th
Coming Back to Corrections
Hey everyone, I need some advice here. I left corrections a little while ago following an incident I had where I was written up for mouthing off to an inmate. I definitely lost my temper and the inmates were angry. I wasn’t fired and they were willing to let me stay, however, I did have some further disagreements with command staff related to this incident and subsequently resigned.
My questions are:
- Is it responsible for me to apply again or am I putting others at risk with this kind of behavior?
I’ve taken full responsibility for the incident and I’ve taken solid, concrete steps to work on my anger, etc.
- If other officers from my previous institution happened to work at the facility I’m applying to (BOP) would I already be looked at with suspicion?
Thank you everyone!
Do you write inmates up often?
Personally the only time I write inmates up is it it’s major contraband a knife, a phone etc etc if it’s minor I’ll let you slide cause at the end of the day jail will be jail prison will be prison. Personally I like my style of work I’m not a pin and pad warrior. Wbu?
Direct supervision
This question is, for officers that are working direct supervision units. I've heard nothing but bad things about direct supervision but according to the stat they tend to be safer, than indirect supervision units.I'm just curious to know what the experience is like working in a direct supervision unit. Is it more stressful? Are you always on your toes? Would you recommend it?
