From FMGE to AMC 1 - Cleared both on my first attempt (265 in AMC 1)

Hey guys,
I wanted to share my journey from FMGE to AMC 1, especially for those of you who graduated from medical schools outside India and are trying to figure out your next steps.
I’m a 2025 graduate of Volgograd State Medical University, Russia. Like many Indian medical graduates, one of my first major milestones after graduation was FMGE. I managed to clear it on my first attempt, and after that, I started exploring my options for pursuing medicine abroad.
Eventually, I decided to work towards the Australian pathway.

A little about my journey:
FMGE: Cleared on my first attempt 237/300. AIR 8
AMC CAT MCQ (AMC 1): Cleared on my first attempt with a score of 265.

Going from preparing for FMGE to preparing for AMC 1 was an interesting transition. Although both are medical licensing exams, I had to adapt my preparation to a different examination style and approach to clinical questions.
One thing I realised along the way is that passing one exam doesn’t automatically mean the next one will be easy. You still need to understand what the new exam expects from you and adjust your preparation accordingly.
I’m sharing this because, when you’re an IMG, the entire process can feel overwhelming. There are questions about eligibility, credential verification, preparation resources, exams, internships, and what comes next. Sometimes, even figuring out where to begin is difficult.
I remember having many of these questions myself, and I know there are others in the same position.

I’m happy to share my experience with both FMGE and AMC 1, including my preparation approach, resources, mistakes, and what I would do differently if I were starting again.

For anyone currently preparing for AMC 1 after FMGE, or considering the Australian pathway after graduating abroad, feel free to ask me anything about my experience.

I’m still navigating the next stages of the Australian medical pathway myself, so I’ll share what I know from personal experience rather than pretend to have all the answers.

Hope this helps someone who’s currently trying to figure out their next step!

Feel free to reach out to me on any queries.
