I need surgery that will require about two weeks time off, but I've only been with HD for 60 days
Had a painful injury (in a private area that's not readily apparent, apparently genetic predisposition but exasperated by physical strain at work) and it's affecting my ability to eat solid food and to work, not to mention just live my regular life. I'm going through the process of examination from my PCP and referral to specialists, but it's sounding like I'm going to need surgery and two to four weeks of painful recovery.
I like this job and don't want to lose it. I feel like, and receive feedback that tells me that I'm standing head and shoulders above other recent hires. I've been working for 60-70 days at about 37 hours a week and don't have any time off yet. The surgery is something I can schedule freely, but I am in pain until I get the surgery, and it's affecting my mood and physical ability.
How do I have this conversation with HR/SM to convey that I want to get back to work at full strength? How do I prove that this surgery is in an uncomfortable area without grossing anyone out or disclosing the exact nature of the procedure? I really don't want to get known as the guy that needed his butt operated on. I also don't want to deteriorate and further damage myself over four more months when I get access to time off. I've never been late or missed a shift, don't want to be late or call out. I'd like to think that I can just get right back up after the procedure and go back to work but all accounts say two to four weeks of bed rest recovery.
Thanks
