I recently saw a couple different posts on TikTok and Threads from women saying how they dated someone, usually at BYU or BYU-I, who was convinced he would someday be the prophet. I recently watched the False Prophet documentary about Samuel Bateman and Christine’s appearance on the podcast Cults to Consciousness, so I’ve been ruminating on how often this whole “future prophet” business seems to be going down. I hear people talking and joking about this part of Mormon culture super frequently, but has anyone ever taken a poll or count to see just how often it happens? I think we would be astonished if we actually saw some numbers. Let’s assume these answers specifically are for men thinking they will be the prophet and president of the mainstream LDS church, not their own spinoff.

Men, feel free to comment about how you might have been taught or influenced to believe that was your predestined path.

My fellow exmo sisters, what are we wearing to LDS family funerals? Every dress I own is intentionally inappropriate nowadays. I’m happy to buy a new dress but I am NOT buying one of those pioneer-style tiered skirt monstrosities. I’m a middle-aged woman for crying out loud. Everything is floral and looks like little girl dresses. Not looking to make a statement or call attention here, as we will be the only non-TBMs in the family attending, but I don’t want to buy a Mormon dress either, you know? So do I go for business semi-formal or what?
