Location: Bettendorf, Iowa (Midwest weather)

I recently de-thatched our yard. However, that brought up patches of yard that I believe need seeding. Some of these patches had wild grass last year. I’m thinking to put some dirt in because top soil has drained away over last decade (my yard is little slanted), and then put grass seed in.

Questions I need help with

  1. is that the right order? Or should I put seed in first and then out some dirt on it (sand+compost mix I get at the facility here)

  2. Should I be doing something different?

My goal is to have a home with grassy front and a little wild life friendly (with a little dandelion, clover, etc ) back.
