Would have liked to work the cast shadow a bit better but I was going slightly insane so let’s just not look at it too much. What would you do to enhance the realism?

How do you guys feel about rough portrait sketches? Aggressive shading - yay or nay?

I like working with REALLY fat pencils for the quick values and expressiveness but I realize they can come across as unpolished. Neat shading and even going in with sharp mechanical pencils is fun too - depends on the mood.
