Hey everyone,
Just for you to know i types this post in my native language and asked ai to translate it.
I’m looking for some advice on a needed CPU upgrade. I mainly play MMORPGs, and lately, I’ve been forced to run them on low settings just to keep the frame rate stable. It’s clear my 2019-era CPU is finally hitting a wall.
My current specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i7-9700
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT
- RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4
- PSU: EVGA 600W White
- Case: NZXT H500
I’ve reached a point where a simple upgrade isn't possible. To get a better CPU, I have to replace the motherboard my currenty one cant handle Better chips, the PSU (to handle modern power spikes), and the cooler.
The Dilemma: The real question is about the platform. To stay with DDR4, I need to track down very specific motherboards (like a Z790 D4 or a high-end B760 D4) that are increasingly hard to find in 2026. I'm essentially looking for "older generation" new stock that most retailers have already phased out.
I’ve been eyeing the Intel i5-14600KF, but I'm torn between two paths:
- The DDR4 Path: Hunt for those rare/disappearing DDR4 motherboards to keep my current setup's costs down.
- The DDR5 Path: Stop looking backward. Sell the old RAM and move to a modern DDR5 platform (AM5 or Intel’s latest) while only keeping my RX 6750 XT.
My question to you all: Is it a mistake to spend money on "outdated" motherboard tech in 2026 just to stay on the DDR4 standard ( 220€ CPU 200€motherboard 160€ PSU and cooler)? Even if the DDR5 jump is more expensive (new RAM + pricier boards), am I just delaying the inevitable by trying to find parts that are already becoming extinct?
If you were rebuilding this mid-range setup today, would you bother with the DDR4 hunt or just make the clean break to DDR5?
What would you do in my shoes?
