What’s the most overlooked challenge with affiliate programs?

A lot of affiliate programs focus on the obvious benefits recurring commissions, easy signups, ready-made promo tools, etc. But the long-term experience usually tells a different story.

I’ve been looking into programs like the AKOOL affiliate program, and it got me thinking about the less talked about side of affiliate marketing overall.

On paper, the setup looks straightforward: recurring commissions, AI tools that are already trending, and a pretty broad creator audience. But with programs like this, I’m more interested in what happens after the initial excitement wears off.

For people who’ve promoted SaaS or AI-related affiliate products consistently, what ended up being the biggest downside over time?

Was it audience burnout, low conversion rates, content fatigue, tracking issues, competition, or something else?
