Did Dottore truly get what he wanted? (end of 6.6/ Heavy spoilers ahead)
Hey. I was one of the people who firmly believed until the very end that Dottore hadn’t truly died at the end of 6.3, and that everything happening there was unfolding according to his plan. A lot of people denied it or called it copium, but in the end, I was right — and 6.6 gave us clear confirmation of that.
Now I want to share similar thoughts after analyzing everything we’ve seen.
Disclaimer, as always: my words are not the absolute truth and could end up being inaccurate. Everything written in this post is based on my analysis of the preload/AQ and Hoyo’s previous storytelling decisions.
Well then, let’s begin with this…
When some people came across this screenshot and read the text maps, they were somewhat confused: it almost looks like Dottore, despite pursuing his goal for so long, never actually had a clear direction or a firm understanding of what he wanted to achieve in the end. Many of his experiments, on the surface, seemed to lead nowhere. But what if I told you that, for the Omega segment, all of this was a precisely planned funeral procession, along which he simply indulged in the act of experimentation itself — and that his ultimate destination and objective were, in fact, fulfilled?
After completing the storyline, I began to wonder: did Omega even plan to return home at all?
In the final dialogue, he appears to have accepted this outcome, showing no signs of regret.
This is where the second, no less interesting aspect comes into play: the motive. I believe I’ve found my answer in this:
The issue is that the Omega segment is not a complete human. None of the segments can fully be Zandik. In essence, they are just encapsulated consciousnesses, incapable of the deep, fundamental personality changes that ordinary humans experience. I think this is why Nahida spoke so critically about the very concept of segments, and why the Traveler’s remarks about Sandrone and Columbina having changed are aimed at him(I believe it was unintentional, yet it still had meaning for the Doctor).
As it turns out, the experiments on animals and humans shown in 6.3 had significant purpose. Even at that point, Dottore had already begun attempting soul transfer experiments, while being only a part of the Omega segment himself (prior to the events in Nod-Krai, he had already split his soul). In the end, all of this was done simply to preserve all of his memories — to reassemble himself as a single, unified being.
So... what now?
Well… this is a place open to many different interpretations. Personally, I lean toward the idea that if the narrative mentions the possibility of resurrection requiring memory and the essence of the soul, it’s not included there by chance. Especially given that we are left with a full archive of memories — not only of one segment, but of Zandik as a collective entity.
In the end, the Omega Segment still had an incredible impact on Teyvat during the Nod-Krai chapters. No matter how much people may deny it, the existence of the true Moon is only possible thanks to his intervention. And the burning of Irminsul seems to have been able to shake fate itself after all. Who knows? Perhaps this complete “death” was necessary in order to rid him of the burden of the name “heretic.” To some extent, I believe that all the Fatui Harbingers must face their "death" before they take their place in this world (Columbina and Scaramouche being the most striking examples).
I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed by the story, or that it didn’t leave me shaken for a full three days. But unfortunately, we only have what we were given
p/s - To be honest, after this, I’ll probably step away from the game and the fandom for a while. I just wanted to put this post together as a collection of thoughts and share it. It might be best to take some distance for now and continue creating fanon instead "D
