Hi everyone, I apologize if this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything in my search.
I'm a 35F and have had my Oura ring for a little over a year. It's been very helpful and I have gotten a lot of benefit from the data, specifically in managing stress.
About 4 months ago I started using a CPAP machine after being diagnosed with moderate OSA. I pushed myself to use it consistently and my apneic events have been in the normal range since I started.
In the past month, I have really noticed a difference in how I feel. I have much more energy throughout the day and my mood is so much better. I am sleeping considerably less than before, especially on the weekends. I am waking up earlier than usual for me, without an alarm. Before CPAP, I would sleep 8-9 hrs on the weekdays but 10-12 on the weekends because I was always exhausted. Now, I'm sleeping 7-8 hrs most nights and I haven't slept in on the weekend in the last month.
Around the time that I have started feeling better with the consistent use of CPAP, I noticed a downward trend in my Oura data. Anything involving recovery and resilience in particular has trended down. Every day for the last month or so, it tells me my resting heart rate is high and to take it easy. My resilience has tanked and my sleep scores are worse than they were before. My activity scores are way higher than normal for me, like 95 or higher for the last two weeks. I'm sure I'm being more active than normal because I feel so good and I'm not staying in bed until 10 or 11 on the weekends trying to catch up on sleep. I don't feel more stressed or strained than normal, in fact I feel better. There's nothing going on in my life that would cause me any additional psychological stress either.
I noticed in my sleep study report that my heart rate went down to 44 overnight. Oura would usually say my lowest sleeping heart rate was in the mid 50s. I'm not a runner or someone that engages in a lot of intense cardiovascular exercise but I do stay active throughout the day with more than 10k steps most days. I feel that perhaps my low heart rate at night could have been related to the untreated sleep apnea and now it's coming up because it's being managed with CPAP?
I guess my question is this. How long until Oura will catch up to me new "baseline" regarding sleep and resting heart rate? I mentioned the CPAP when I got it to the advisor in the app but is there another way to let the algorithm know that there's been this change? Should I reset the last year's data and start over? The biggest reason I got this ring was to be aware of my stress so I want.to figure this out.
Thanks in advance for any insight, it's very appreciated!
And a quick PSA. If you suspect you have sleep apnea or have any troubles with sleep at all, get a sleep study. I'm fairly certain CPAP has saved my life. My mom passed at 65 after suffering for decades with multiple chronic illnesses. She had severe sleep apnea but refused treatment. CPAP therapy has come a long way and it was much, much easier to acclimate to than I thought it would be. I literally feel 10 years younger!
