Is it true that in most people the severity of the outbreaks decreases so much that it does not look like herpes?

How true is it that the severity of the outbreaks decreases greatly over time until they stop looking like herpes?

I want to know if the outbreaks will always be the same with classic vesicles/ulcers or do they become milder over time, not only in lower frequency, number of vesicles and size, or do they become mild and atypical?
