Academic suspension
Hi yall please read and lmk if it my appeal letter looks good
To Appeal Committee,
I am writing to respectfully appeal to my academic standing and request the opportunity
to continue receiving financial aid at \_\_\_\_\_\_I take full responsibility for
my academic performance during the first session and would like to provide context regarding
the challenges I experienced, as well as the steps I have taken to improve.
At the beginning of the term, I was unaware that the courses were structured in
accelerated 8-week sessions rather than the traditional semester format I was accustomed to.
Adjusting to the fast-paced schedule was more difficult than I anticipated, especially as a
first-year graduate student. Although the coursework was intense, I remained committed and
kept up with my assignments, receiving positive feedback from my professors up until February
10, when I was no longer able to complete my coursework.
During the last few weeks of the first session, I experienced an unexpected foot injury
that significantly impacted my ability to manage my coursework and responsibilities. I
underwent two surgeries and remained hospitalized for nearly two weeks. Following the
surgeries, I also had multiple doctor visits and ongoing medical care. This experience deeply
affected my mental health, as I suddenly could not walk, run, drive, or participate in the normal
daily activities I was accustomed to. As a result, I experienced depression and was referred to
counseling and mental health resources to help support me as I navigated life with my temporary
disability. At the same time, I was also working two remote jobs with All Hours Adult Care and
Allstate Insurance. Balancing graduate school, work responsibilities, recovery from surgery, and
my mental health became overwhelming. I was overworked, physically limited, and emotionally
exhausted, which caused me to struggle academically during the final weeks of the first session.Despite these setbacks, I remained committed to my education and worked hard to
improve during the second session. I maintained communication with my professors, focused on
improving my time management and study habits, and stayed ahead on coursework whenever
possible. I also made the difficult decision to leave my second remote job with Allstate so I could
prioritize graduate school and fully dedicate myself to my education.
My efforts resulted in earning two A grades during the second session, which I believe
reflects both my academic capability and my determination to succeed at ———. I also received
very positive feedback from my professors on my essays and discussion posts. Their
encouragement helped restore my confidence and reminded me that I am capable of succeeding
in graduate school. I truly believe that if my medical emergency had not occurred, I would have
earned a 4.0 GPA during my first session. Unfortunately, life does not always go as planned, but
I am determined to learn from this experience and continue moving forward.
This experience taught me the importance of preparation, communication, and
maintaining balance while navigating accelerated coursework. Moving forward, I have
developed stronger organizational strategies, created a structured study schedule, and will
continue utilizing academic resources and faculty support to ensure continued success. I also
plan to maintain a detailed calendar of assignment due dates and remain proactive in
communicating with my professors whenever challenges arise. I am grateful for the support and
understanding my professors have shown me throughout this experience.
I am deeply committed to completing my education at \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ and
achieving my academic and professional goals. I respectfully ask for the opportunity to continue
demonstrating my growth, dedication, and ability to succeed. Education is extremely importantto me, and it would be devastating to lose the opportunity to continue due to circumstances that
were outside of my control. I know I have the knowledge, determination, and capability to excel
academically, and I proved that during the second session of the spring semester by earning two
A grades.
If I am given the opportunity to continue my education at \_\_\_\_\_I will become the first
person in my family to earn a master’s degree. My family has supported and encouraged me
throughout this journey, and I would love the opportunity to make this dream a reality. To
conclude, during a visit to the \_\_\_\_Counseling and Wellness Center , I saw a scripture that has
stayed with me ever since: “God is always fighting for you; just be still.” That message gave me
hope during one of the most difficult periods of my life, and it continues to motivate me to
persevere through adversity.
Thank you for your time, understanding, and consideration of my appeal. God bless.
