Hi all,

I’m struggling with binge-eating triggers that I’m stuck with for the forseeable future. I’m on 4 very potent appetite-stimulating medications for my severe chronic pain. Additionally, I’m struggling with gastrointestinal problems where I have chronic nausea that is improved by eating. All of this on top of the compulsive overeating I’ve had my whole life is a perfect storm. I’m continuously gaining more and more weight. I’m scared. I recently developed sleep apnea. I have pre-diabetes. Walking hurts my feet, and sitting hurts my butt. I don’t like the direction I’m going.

Bariatric surgery has been recommended to me. However, I’m very concerned about how it would affect me if I still have active BED. My entire gastric surgery team (including psychologist & nutritionist) knows about my BED and says it’ll be fine, but I’m unsure. Everyone on r/gastricbypass RAVES about the surgery, but I’d really like to hear the perspective of someone who had bariatric surgery with active BED.

Has anyone here had any bariatric procedures? What was it like? Tell me about transitioning from many calories a day to the miniscule amount allowed during the lengthy recovery.
