I (22F) graduate college in a few days … the first in my family to do it. I got offered a job position in the field I want (edu policy/non-profit work) and they want me to head a really big project; they even offered me authorship credit. I shared this with my mom and grandma…they congratulated at first, but then called me back saying, “don’t put your name on stuff because if it goes wrong, you’ll take the blame”…but like why can’t they ever consider if it goes right? I know they’re just being “protective” but God damn…they are NEVER optimistic about any new opportunity I get outside of my or their comfort zone. It’s infuriating and exhausting to have to keep explaining why their “protection” is not helping, but harming me. *sigh*
