Taking notes on paper ?

Hi everyone.

So I am an incoming Bachelor student in CS and I wanted to know if it is doable to take notes on notebooks rather than on a tablet. I am used to take notes on paper and would like to keep this way. However, I am worried that I would need so many notebooks that it would become hard to get organised when the time for revising for exams come.

Tips for first year students

Hi everyone.

I will soon start my Bachelor in CS and as you know the Basisjahr is really hard for any program you take.

For those who went through the Basisjahr, is there something you wish you knew at the beginning of your programme ? What would you have done differently ?

BYOD and processor

Hi.

According to the BYOD, Intel processors should not be older than 13th generation.

I will start my Bachelor in Computer Science and the processor of my current computer is from 12th generation. I have not had any problem with my current computer so far.

Do I have to buy a new computer or having an Intel processor from 12th generation should be enough to do the work that is required or take the exams ? If I should buy a new one do you have any recommendations ?

Does anyone have experience with Intermezzo ?

Hi everyone.

I have recently received an e-mail saying that my application for a room with Intermezzo has just been accepted and that they will get in touch with me to send me the contract.

I would like to know if someone had already rented a room with them and if yes what was your experience ?

I was so glad when I received the e-mail but I can't find a lot of informations online about them.

Tips for preparing first year of CS Bachelor

Hi everyone.

I will be starting my Bachelor in CS in now less than 2 months.

I would like to start working on the programme in order to anticipate things that I could potentially have difficulties with during the year so that I wont be wasting time trying to understand things that I could have anticipated earlier as I know that the 1st year is very difficult.

Do you have any tips or online courses that you would recommend in order to get ahead ? I know there are recordings of classes but I cannot view them as I still dont have my login datas. The only things I could find are Slides and class notes.

Possibility of terminating a lease agreement at Aant Verlaat

Hi everyone.

I signed a lease agreement with 4-Freedom at Aant Verlaat as I had access to university housing through room.nl.

However, I am not sure about studying at TU Delft as I just received other admissions results recently and I still have not taken a decision.

I would like to know if it is possible to terminate my lease agreement with 4-Freedom even though the contract states that I cannot terminate the agreement before the end of the rental period. But the same contract states that I would rent the room as a TU Delft student so if I de-enroll from TU Delft the agreement would not be valid correct ?

I still haven't contacted them because they never answer to e-mails so that's why I ask there first as I don't want to waste time.

("I confirm that my post is not asking about generic housing experiences")

Ressources for linear algebra

Hello everyone. I will be studying a Bachelor in CS next year and will consequently do linear algebra as a course. I have read that linear algebra is difficult and would like to work on it before the start of my studies to not waste time trying to understand things that I could have anticipated.

Could you, please, suggest useful resources like videos or pdf documents that would help me to work on linear algebra.

From CSE Bachelor to Applied maths Master

I am an upcoming CSE Bachelor student who is interested in potentially pursuing a career in finance.

That being said, I would like to know if it is possible and realistic to get accepted later in the Master of Applied Mathematics program with the Financial Engineering specialization by taking adapted minors in the third year of Bachelor such as Finance for example.

Need advice with my choice

Hello everyone. I need your opinion on whether it is worth studying at ETH for a Bachelor.

First of all some context: I just graduated from high-school in the French system (Baccalauréat) and my native language is French. Nevertheless, I hold a C1 level in German by having passed the TestDaf with the following grades: 4,4,5 (writing),4. I got accepted in the Bachelor CS just last week but before that I was sure to study at TU Delft for a Bachelor in CSE. My project would be to then switch to Finance for my Master as I am interested in working in this field and I know that Switzerland (and Zurich) offers many huge opportunities in Finance and additionnaly having a degree from Switzerland helps a lot.

The admission result from ETH made me rethink my decision of studying at TU Delft because studying in ETH would open many doors as it has an incredible international reputation (although TU Delft has also a good reputation) and additionnaly having a Bachelor degree there grants an automatic admission in a Master programme in ETH.

However, I know that it implies some huge challenges:

  • Language barrier (biggest concern): How easy is it to deal with studies in Swiss German as a non native speaker ? I feel that I am not completely fluent in German and I would obviously need to study maths vocabulary in German. However, I read that the programme progressively switches to english in 2nd and 3rd year. I also read somewhere that professors might allow students to write exams in english. Is that true ? I would like to read experiences from other non native speakers that have studied in ETH. At TU Delft I would study in english for information.
  • Workload: I am aware that studying there means non stop working during 3 years and that you do not get to have many vacations. I also read that half the students fails to pass the first year without repeating it whereas at TU Delft, only 25% fail to pass the first year. How can you deal with such pressure ?
  • Housing: The programme starts in exactly 2 months and I just registered in the common platform from ETH and UZH. I found some good options for a reasonnable price. But still, am I on time to secure housing ? I already secured housing in the Netherlands.

Additionaly, I also applied to EPFL and if everything goes well I should get accepted as I achieved a high enough grade in the Baccalauréat but I would still choose TU Delft (even though I would study in French) as there is not a high difference in reputation between the two and the academic pressure in EPFL is much higher.

I would also like to know (if you have informations): Is it possible and realistic to get accepted in the Quant finance Master at ETH coming from the CSE Bachelor at TU Delft ?

Thanks a lot for reading this long message and thanks in advance for any answer. It would help me a lot making a decision
