Hi, I currently in my first year of GIM BST and I feel burnt out and a bit anxious for my future. I am thinking about my options for HST as applications will open by September or so.
I really like clinical/ hospital medicine, but the calls are doing my head in. I feel really drained after them. I am needing more time to recover from night shifts and I am completly spent at the end of a week where I have worked the weekend before.
I have changed specialty preferences over the course of my career, and I am looking at other options again which is making me feel more uncertain. "What if I don't like it down the line?"
Now, I am considering palliative care (instead of geris). Recently, I listened to a talk on occupational health which also got me curious.
I don't have any experience with either pall care or occ health. What if I don't like it? I really like patient facing, team- based specialties.
What other specialties would have that without the call requirement (ie from reg level).
