Finally wrapping up PT. Not sure if I want to come back
35 year y/o. I had been doing judo for about a year when I suffered a pretty severe ankle break during Randori in December. I live in the Midwest, so my Dojo is smaller and most of the guys are fluffy (200lbs+), I was going for a tai otoshi and the guy fell on my ankle and snapped it (ouch). Ended up needing a plate and developed a few blood clots. Been on the mend ever since.
Finishing up PT and getting off blood thinners next month. Ankle healed great but not sure I want to risk it going back. Competition days are definitely over but I could probably still make black belt with some determination. From a practical sense, I feel like I have learned enough for basic self defense. I think that switching to BJJ (I hate the culture of American BJJ) or boxing would be a less injury prone way to proceed.
Anybody else ever go back after severe injury or did you just retire?
