I’m trying to control vocals using line-level instructions like:
hello [three voices]
hello [whispered]
I understand that parentheses are usually treated as lyrics, and square brackets are used for production/vocal instructions.
My problem is that Suno doesn’t seem to treat these instructions as strictly per-line. For example, when I use [whispered], it sometimes affects the entire section instead of just that specific line, and the vocal style carries over into other lines.
I’ve also tried mixing formats to force separation, like:
(hello [whispered])
But it still doesn’t behave consistently—sometimes the whispering or vocal style spreads beyond the intended line.
What I’m trying to understand is:
Is there a reliable way to make vocal instructions apply only to a single line?
Are there any proven formatting methods people use to prevent effects like whispering or harmonies from carrying over?
