Should I buy a MacBook Neo for my mom?
Hi guys, my mom works at an insurance company and mainly uses WhatsApp and WeChat for communication, plus lots of paperwork and document handling.
I’m considering getting her a MacBook Neo with 8GB RAM, but I’m a bit worried about long-term performance. She usually keeps her devices for many years, and WeChat on macOS is known to get pretty heavy over time, especially once lots of files and chat history build up.
Her previous computers were an iMac (lagged like crazy near the end) and a Lenovo all-in-one PC, and recently she’s been using her iPad Pro most of the time. I feel like a laptop would be much more convenient for her work, and she’s already familiar with Apple devices.
Do you guys think the Neo is enough for this kind of usage over the next few years, or should I spend extra for a MacBook Air instead?
(BTW, storage isn’t really my main concern.
If needed, I can always give her an external SSD enclosure with my spare 1TB SSD for extra storage. What I’m actually worried about is RAM, since that’s not upgradeable.)
