Neighbor feeding crows- droppings covering my car, entry and yard
New to Portland and just bought a house. The neighbor on the hill in front of my house feeds the crows whole peanuts in her back yard. The crows immediately fly over my car, drive and house loosing fecal explosions EVERYWHERE - on my car, entryway, windows etc. it’s impossible to park anywhere else out of range unless I abandon parking on or near my property. I’m finding whole in the shell peanuts in my backyard because they fly over the house to the tall trees in the back. The peanuts are in the flowerpots on my deck and in my gutters. The crows also have gotten into the trash on trash morning requiring me to clean it up twice. There are also Raccoons being fed. Another neighbor has supposedly been been putting poison out and killed an adult Raccoon. Obviously I moved into an ongoing struggle in the neighborhood over this overfeeding of wildlife.
I am not against feeding the birds but this goes beyond feeding and is creating a noxious nuisance. Birds and raccoons carry diseases and the excess food draws rats, mice and other disease carriers.
What do I do? I haven’t been here long and hate to get into it with a neighbor but this situation has to change.
Is there any kind of service that I can contact? Does the City have a service that I can contact about this? I’m afraid that if I say anything directly it will just get worse. I’ve thought about talking to them but my first introduction was less than pleasant- I was informed I needed their permission for “this, that and the other” as well as they can look into my bedroom window when it’s open followed by suggestions on making it harder to look into. In some ways I feel like the situation already intensified because I did already have a conversation with them- because negative attention is attention so I don’t want to get sucked into that.
Suggestions welcome.
