Hi everyone, genuinely looking for insights from Delhi University students.
I’m currently studying at Panjab University, and I’ve been quite frustrated with how theory exams are evaluated here. The checking seems highly inconsistent and subjective.
To give some context:
• There is no fixed marking scheme, so evaluation depends heavily on the individual examiner and their mood.
• The same answer can be considered excellent by one professor and average by another.
• Some examiners seem to prioritize length (number of sheets filled), while others focus on content quality.
• There are no clear instructions on whether to prioritize filling sheets or focusing on content quality, and each professor seems to have a different expectation.
In my case, I:
• Wrote well-structured answers (introduction, body, conclusion)
• Included proper diagrams, Codes and tables wherever needed
• Filled almost 31–32/32 sheets in every exam
• Despite this, I ended up with an 8.0 CGPA in Semester 1 (B.C.A) while some students who wrote less or presented poorly scored higher.
In theory-heavy subjects like E-Commerce, marks generally ranged around 50–60 out of 75. In C Programming, most top scores were around 31–36 out of 45, and full marks were extremely rare (≈0.1% of students).
So I wanted to ask DU students:
• How is theory paper evaluation in Delhi University?
Is there a standardized marking scheme, or is it also examiner-dependent?
• For an 80-mark theory paper, what is considered a high score, and what does the average range look like? How common is scoring 70+?
• For programming/practical subject theory exams, what are typical high scores and average ranges? How many students score at the top level?
• Does presentation (diagrams, structure, neatness) actually translate into better marks?
Basically, I want to understand whether this kind of inconsistency is specific to PU or a common issue across universities in India.
Everyone, please share your experiences.
Would really appreciate honest insights.
