HC SSF Level 99 in ~130 Hours – FoH Paladin
As many Diablo II: Resurrected players know, one of the most intimidating achievements in the game is reaching Level 99 on Hardcore. For most players, this achievement alone is enough to make the Platinum trophy feel unattainable.
When I started looking into it, I found that most people spent anywhere from 300 to 500+ hours reaching Level 99 in Hardcore. That was far more time than I wanted to invest for a single achievement.
In the end, I managed to reach Level 99 in Hardcore Single Player in a little over 130 hours.
Why Single Player?
Single Player offers several advantages:
Static maps.
Player count can be adjusted up to Players 8.
Terror Zones can be controlled.
No reliance on trading or other players.
Character Choice
I chose a Paladin because he:
Is extremely durable for Hardcore.
Can complete the game with very cheap gear.
Has easy access to +Skills.
Handles immunities better than most classes.
Can efficiently farm with minimal equipment.
Progression
Normal Difficulty
Start on Players 8.
Level using Holy Fire and its synergies. The damage is enormous early on, mana consumption is minimal, and survivability is excellent.
While progressing, collect:
2-socket helm
Two 3-socket armors
3-socket shield
White Crystal Sword (Act V)
White Heraldic Shield with 35+ all resistances if possible
Use Larzuk’s socket quest on the shield first, then the sword if necessary.
Nightmare Difficulty
Respec into Hammerdin.
Farm Countess for:
Tal Thul Ort Amn ×2 (Spirit Sword and Shield)
Ort Sol (Lore)
Ral Tir Tal Sol (Insight)
Shael Io Tal (Cure)
Hel
By the end of Nightmare:
Spirit Sword
Spirit Shield
Resistance armor
Lore helm
Resistance boots, gloves, and belt
Mercenary:
Act II Prayer Mercenary
Insight
Cure
Hell Difficulty
Play on Players 1 only.
Important rules:
Always keep fire, lightning, and cold resistances maxed.
Use Cleansing when cursed.
Be careful around Fanaticism and Might packs.
Walk instead of running whenever possible to maintain maximum block chance.
Farm Countess until you obtain Lum and Fal.
Create:
Lionheart (Hel Lum Fal)
Use another respec and continue as Hammerdin.
I also farmed gold in Lower Kurast and gambled for a +3 Combat Skills amulet.
Baal Problem
The second wave in Baal’s throne room is immune to Blessed Hammer.
Because of that, save your Hell respec.
After Wave 1, respec into:
Fist of the Heavens
Holy Bolt
This setup clears the remaining waves safely and eventually kills Baal.
Final Build
Skills
Holy Bolt – 20
Fist of the Heavens – 20
Holy Shock – 20
Conviction – 20
Vigor – 1
Remaining points into Holy Shield and Redemption

The Level 99 Strategy
After defeating Hell Baal I was around level 80.
Most players would now start farming Baal, Chaos Sanctuary, or Terror Zones.
I did something different.
I built my entire leveling strategy around Terrorized Rakanishu in Stony Field.
Requirements:
Generate a map where the Tristram portal is very close to the waypoint.
Ensure Rakanishu spawns only a few steps away.
Use a Single Player Terror Zone calendar.
Set the system date to a Stony Field Terror Zone.
Run Players 8.
Each run takes roughly 26–30 seconds.
Kill Rakanishu and his pack, save and exit, repeat.
From level 80 to 99 requires approximately 12,000 runs.
The first 2,000 runs get you to around level 94 surprisingly quickly.
The real grind begins from 94 to 99.
At roughly 30 seconds per run:
12,000 runs
6,000 minutes
About 100 hours of pure farming
That’s how I earned the Hardcore Level 99 achievement in a little over 130 total hours.
Hopefully this helps anyone chasing one of Diablo II: Resurrected’s most difficult achievements.
