Question about Western Armenian cities vs today’s map
I have heard that the names of many cities/towns from ottoman times were changed to different names. I know that Malatya is a city but also a province. My family has roots from Malatya and Arapgir. On Google it says that Arapgir is within the province of Malatya.
So my question is, for example, Arapgir on today’s map.. is it in the same place that Arapgir was during pre-genocide map? Or was it moved? If it was moved, where was it before?
Also Ordu, was it always along the Black Sea? Or was it somewhere else before? I had a DNA match reach out to me and they said their relative was from ordu but on today’s map that is no where near where my relatives were said to be from
This is all so very confusing…
Also, Is there a pre-genocide map that someone can share with me? I’ve been trying to do some Geneology research and it’s so hard when the village names I’ve heard in my family are no longer on today’s maps.
