What is your policy for employee food? Do you get a free meal when you work? Half off? Do they let you taste the food or do you have to buy it to try it?

I know fine dining is usually good about having staff try all the food but I would love to hear from everyone-chains, mom and pop, fine dining…whatever.

I’m accustomed to receiving a free meal but the place I currently work at holds food hostage. We are allowed half off entrees only (doesn’t apply to apps or desserts or anything else)

No snacks, no trying the food unless you buy it, and we get either a free cup of soup or a house salad when we work a shift. Owner also frowns on us purchasing our half off meal and taking it to go as he prefers we eat it in the restaurant.

Fire away Reddit homies and thank you

EDIT-PLEASE WEIGH IN GUYS-I’m trying to bring this up with management but I need more evidence to support my argument

THANK YOU FOR THE few out of thousands who replied really appreciate you!
